Much of California's coastline is closed amid the coronavirus pandemic—but on Saturday morning, a surfer who apparently really needed his fix was fined $1,000 for ignoring the rules, the Los Angeles Times reports. A Los Angeles County lifeguard at Manhattan Beach ordered the man to stay out of the water, to which he replied, per the Easy Reader: "Go ahead and arrest me." The lifeguard says the man then threw out some "colorful language" before heading into the waves. The lifeguard called his supervisor, who called police. A cop arrived with a code enforcement officer, who issued the citation.

The ocean now has coronavirus.

I guess you can’t close a crowded beach and then make exceptions.

So a guy, ONE guy, who was going to be a good ¼mile away from the nearest individual (probably), draws a lifeguard plus two officers of the law together to enforce a law which was made up to keep people apart??

Too bad he didn’t take his dog out surfing. They could have just opened fire on him and his dog from the edge of the water.

This seems like grist for a scene from Police Academy

Say what you want about the surfer, but this is the height of totalitarian stupidity.

The authorities close the beach under an edict aimed at enforcing “social distancing,” and yet the enforcement of this edict involves 2-3 other people getting involved — and violating every aspect of those “social distancing” protocols.

And why is there a lifeguard on duty if the beach is CLOSED?

Maybe if the surfer had the foresight to slip a couple of brewskis and maybe a $20 bill or two to the lifeguard ahead of time.

I have seen liberals on a few local FB groups demand social distancing and closures of hiking areas and in the same breath demand PD to come in a fine people for hiking or walking their dog.

It comes down to the fact the libs want to control every aspect of your life, such as the stay home but outdoor exercise is OK and they see people enjoying that so they want to stop that as well.

And he wasn’t putting anyone else in danger.

Who would have thunk it. A patriot surfer. Hang ten. There will be more disobedience as time goes on. Good. Get tough or die. The only way to beat this virus is to become immune

Just what we need — fine lone surfers and let the real criminals out of jail.
