Coronavirus: Belgian woman infected her cat

A Belgian woman from the Liège province has infected her cat with the coronavirus, reported the FPS Public Health during the daily update press conference about the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

“The veterinary medicine faculty in Liège reported that a coronavirus infection has been determined in a cat. The cat lived with her owner, who started showing symptoms of the virus a week before the cat did,” said professor Steven Van Gucht.

The animal lived in close contact with its owner, and started showing symptoms a week after the woman did. “The cat had diarrhoea, kept vomiting and had breathing difficulties. The researchers found the virus in the cat’s faeces,” he added. They did not say whether the cat was still alive.

If cats can be a carrier all this social distancing is for naught.

My daughter is a “cat lady” and a Nurse. She said that some breeds of cats carry something similar to the corona virus called Feline Infectious Perintonitis and they can not give it to humans.

What they don’t tell you is the cat was 12 years old and had CPOD.

That is not WuFlu, however.

If a dog can pick up a virus particle on its fur and transfer it to its owner by contact, can a fly pick up a virus particle on its leg and transfer it to a human by landing?

Chinese WMDs are fun.

Owning a cat and changing the litter box, and not washing your hands can lead to toxoplasmosis... about 750/year die from it. Perhaps there should be a National Crisis “Fox News Alert” with a BIG map.

Poor Belgian kitty needs to be sent across the Rainbow Bridge ASAP....

Why's that? I simply won't touch any more cats! (Don't have any here at home anyway - where I've spent the last week holed up!)

Story is bogus, said cat doesn’t have the coronavirus symptom, only has virus in the feces.

===> I guess Belgium has so many test kits, they now extend testing to cats.

An entomologist told me that flies groom themselves frequently, and are fairly clean. According to her, the chance that they will transmit a virus is actually quite low.

The cat was showing symptoms and had a known exposure. Hence, it was tested.

The cat coronavirus is a deadly disease. Once your cat gets Feline Infectious Peritonitis, it is doomed. 100% fatal. I’ve lost two cats that way.

I call BS on this story in popular press. COVID-19 in the Faeces of the cat does not mean the cat has COVID-19. Correlation does not equal causation. Just because the cat is sick does not mean the cat is sick with COVID-19.

Were it possible, there’d be reports all over about it happening. There are not. Ergo, it isn’t happening.

"..... researchers found the virus in the cat’s faeces,”

....... Is it possible the cat actually ingested the virus from food given to it by the infected owner?
