The U.S. Army is asking retired soldiers who served in health care fields if they want to come back on active duty to help deal with the response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
"These extraordinary challenges require equally extraordinary solutions and that's why we're turning to you," wrote Lt. Gen. Thomas Seamands, deputy chief of staff for Human Resources Command, in an email sent to former service members on Wednesday.
"When the Nation called, you answered, and now, that call may come again," Seamands wrote.

If they were qualified in the medical field, don’t they practice those skills in civilian labor pool?
I mean, not everyone becomes a doctor or nurse and then gives up medicine after the service.
Sounds like a possible sequester of skilled service members from a labor pool already strained in the middle of a crisis.
I warned you guys about making me come out of retirement.
But, remember....according to many FReepers....this is all for.. It’sJustTheFlu
Sheesh.
Are folks finally waking up, now?
It’s been 52 years man. Not sure if I could really help.
Could be, but they mention letting them know if you are already doing this. So many docs retired after Øbamacare, this might be a way to contribute without all the licensing hassle from the state boards. And it is an honorable thing to do. Gawd, I love our military.
I am going to be so angry at you people if you couldnt just stay. Home for two weeks.
What did you used to do?
Corpsman.
How old?
If you dont mind?
72. Danang 68-69.
How fit are you? Can you bag a patient, push a stretcher, stand on your feet for 12 or 16 hours? You have been there. Can you still do it?
Oh I’m all for it, if it is redrawing from a labor pool of individuals with the background in the fields. Its just, I don’t see the military suddenly coming up with people having those skills overnight.
Is there data on those with medical skills who no longer practice medicine?
I mean, Hospitals have to be tripping over themselves to hire new qualified staff at this point.
At least, they’re only asking and not telling. Because then I might think they’re pulling off the frontlines medical staff who are already doing their work to combat this virus.
Hope its really to be an incentive anyone who has left medical field.
It really could get that bad. If people have screwed this up. They were ASKED nicely.
You know the world is about to blow up when the call back the 35D/35E (All source tactical military intel officer/counter intelligence special agent) to do the pre and post attack planning.
