I do so wish I couldnt imagine what it must be like in a NYC big hospital ER now. I wish I didnt know.
When I got out of the Army in 05 I was 34, weighed 180 and could ace a PT Test. Almost fifteen years later I weigh 230s, can hike for miles but would struggle with PT. Vision has worsened and had a single level fusion in my c spine this past year.
I was enlisted then but am an RN now with ten years experience on step down units (progressive care). I probably wouldnt need a long training period for ICU. Just have a damn good RT nearby that can manage vent settings and Ill hang the drips.
Ill call this number tomorrow and see if they could use my half broken middle aged ass.
Our local “talker” host’s son is now an ER doc at NYC Presby. He is quite worried for him....and mentions it daily as a worried father.
Got friends and fam who are nurses and docs, myself. God bless them for what they are trying to do and encountering during this time.
“But, remember....according to many FReepers....this is all for.. ItsJustTheFlu”
It is just the flu. I still don’t know anybody or anybody who knows somebody with this deadly cold. I think if the “expotential” growth were true I would at least know somebody who knows somebody with it.
God Bless you!
Thanks for your service Capt., but I think they would list you as high risk due to age and being exposed to sick people. You’re a great American to be willing to go back. Thank you!
There are going to be a whole lot of doctors not live through this. And nurses. And RTs. Its going to decimate them.
Where you are it may not be exponential yet. I assure you in NYC it is. They are being over run. When you are putting bodies in tents in body bags outside, you are being over run.
Unless, it’s a hoax and a lie.
Why would anyone do that?
You are gonna be the last to give up, huh? Bravo. I do like a man with conviction. Confidence.
Not the Flu. Its a serious medical issue we will be dealing with off and on until a vaccine or herd immunity ends it.
What its not is the Bubonic plague or Captain Tripps
My take, for what its worth is a pandemic somewhere between the 1957 Asian Flu and the 1918 Spanish flu.
Seems the ones busting the FluBros chops are giddy at the thought of a end of the world pandemic
This is SOP/OI for the government, especially the military. At the moment they are calling for volunteers. Bu they don’t have to....and later may not. But the public won’t know it.
There are three categories that can be utilized by the Department of Defense (DOD) Directive 1352.1 separate veterans, with those most likely to be recalled under Category I. These categories are:
Category I: Nondisabled military retirees under the age of 60 who have been retired less than five years. This category is disposed to be recalled during times of war, national emergency, or needs of the service.
Category II: Nondisabled military retirees under the age of 60 who have been retired five years or more.
Category III: Military retirees age 60 or older and those retired for disability.
Problem here is that they can recall for their purposes and can, most likely, utilize the recalled troop for whatever they classify as need of service. The ones that volunteer will be given more of an opportunity to determine their use. Those recalled, if it comes to that, will not.
So slipping in a short tour overseas or being relocated away from your family for your duty station might be in the cards. I didn’t, and still don’t, trust Uncle Sugar not to do what they want whether it means anything to the troop or not.

Not giddy. Just sad. Sad we were caught so flat footed. Sad so many refused to see, refused to try to understand. Everything in the world is changing.
It is actually a modern day response to an age old problem. People attempting to come together seperatly to save the world. . Hope all this is worth it and it makes a difference. I am pretty impressed with the commonsense displayed. If not, and I’m saying we aren’t at least shootings are down in Chicago.
“Are folks finally waking up, now?”
No, they’re entrenched in their position with orders not to budge.
Actually I’m in pretty good shape for an old fart. Spend lots of time in the outdoors hunting and fishing but no I’m not what I was when I was 20 and I need a nap around 1300 hours every day. My only interaction with military are my visits to the VA.
How about retired?
Place the blame on the Chinese and their lack of regulating disgusting wet markets. This was bound to happen sooner than later.
The knocks on FluBos is just misdirection. Everybody I know, Flubro or panic lord. are social distancing.
Again, a serious pandemic. And one that cause major problems in dense urban areas. This is not, however, the fictional bug from Contagion. The CFR for that fiction bug was 35-40%. This, with expanded testing and isolation can be managed at 1-2%
You were in medicine?
It hurts when I do this with my elbow.
