Denying the “right” to be drafted? What? Women have the right to enlist.

Wow.

There’s a big difference between requiring women to register for the draft....

And actually drafting them.

But it seems most FReepers here seemed to notice that huge distinction.

There is no draft since Vietnam.

If there ever is one then we can talk about it then,

These days less than 25% of that entire age group can even qualify for service in any branch of our military. The percentage of young women qualified to join is lower than the men. And anyone who wants to get out of it can fake a multitude of disqualifying conditions. So the whole discussion is really just theoretical.

Equal Rights and all. Women can be remfs and free up fighting men. But if there is a call up, the pregnancy rate will soar. Just because everyone registers, does not mean all will be called.

Should have been drafting women since August 18, 1920.

If you kill a man, you kill a man. Kill a woman, you kill generations.

The problem with the women’s right movements is that they wanted to be as “valuable” as men. What they didn’t know is that they are more valuable. You don’t send valuable assets into war, you send expendables. And for most of written history, the expendables have always been men.

The Soviets tried to put women on the front line during WWII, that lasted about two weeks.

> Heck, let’s draft paraplegics! They’re human.

This is NOT a draft.
This is registering for a draft, if ever required.
Paraplegics, if male, must register.

the tip of the sphere

Don't you mean the tip of the spear? I'm having a really hard time picturing a sphere with a tip. I suspect autocorrect will be the death of us all.

Or we could just abolish the draft for both sexes. That way everybody has the same responsibilities and the government has an incentive to reduce the number of foreign (mis)adventures. We should be putting America first anyway, not trying to be the world’s policeman.

It is clearly a violation of a man's civil rights to be required to register when a woman of the same birthdate doesn't, so it should be part of the ERA -- and then watch that ridiculous grandstanding BS proposed amendment get burned to the ground by angry mobs of voters. "Because 99+ percent of US combat forces have been men, that means some women must have fired a shot here and there since 1776."

Democrats have been craving this for decades, hoping to lasso women into having to obey the government just like men.

The US military was very glad when the draft for men was ended by Nixon, as few draftees could reach military standards. A volunteer force is much better.

As far as actual combat goes, only about 1 in 15 or so jobs in the military is combat arms. The rest are combat support, and combat service support. The “every man can be an infantryman” nonsense is just that. Acting otherwise just means that those other 14 are nothing more than cannon fodder.

Maybe only 1 women in 100 can handle combat. So drafting them is inefficient to the point of being criminal.

Its a really good plan if your plan is to suddenly create an entire generation of single moms. Already when I was in back in the 80s/90s there were far too many that suddenly realized that running away from home via the military was not a good plan so they got pregnant a couple of months in to first tour for the sole purpose to get back out.

” I actually think some women are allot tougher then men anyways...”

Yep, I have had the sense that there are women who have more mettle than many of the young men today. I’m often a little embarrassed to say nothing of saddened at how femmie younger guys seem to me. I find myself thinking or hoping that it must be a misperception of mine...

Well, that would be one way to skyrocket the fertility rate (with bastards), spread more diseases and feed the hysterectomy industry (disease), not to mention bringing more plagues and other disasters down on our country (evil!).

I’m sure that there would be millions of exceptions for the political class and its more equal animals. And did I mention divine punishment and annihilation?
