No Nation will last that allows its women to fight its battles while the men stay home.

Some people turned off their TV. I turned off my autocorrect.

I’m a big boy. I don’t need help making mistakes!

Modern armies are not lines of men with rifles. Lots of jobs that women can do without carrying a musket. Computers, Cooks, washers, truck drivers, Drone operators, piloting cargo planes, doing math and navigation. Not to mention being sexual partners. Women and camp followers have always been parts of any army. They too should pull their weight. Women who are mothers should be except for all this—we need mothers at home.

I’ve always thought that everyone should be required to complete 2 years of civic duty and register for a ‘declared wartime only’ draft. Key is it doesn’t have to be military service. In this way everyone provides for the common defense though not necessarily on the front lines and large percentage of the bureaucracy is replaced by temp conscripts.

Um... it lasted considerably longer than that, just not in grunt infantry. Female snipers, AAA crews, artillery crews, *combat* fighter pilots and bomber crews were all a thing. There were also female tank crew but that was more an oddity than anything else and was not constant policy.

One unit, the Night Witches, fought from 42-45. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Witches

The draft is not only for direct combat positions. We need rear area personnel too - mechanics, logistics, electronics repair, intelligence, etc. Women can be used there just fine and may even do a better job than men in some areas.

Even if you want to restrict it to traditional female roles, we need nurses and doctors in a war too.

Women should not be exempted from registering for the draft these days, especially with the increasing demands for equality.

I think a lot of people would have issues with forced service when so many idle people are compensated for doing nothing. This country should have had a CCC-type program for permanent welfare recipients already.

What constitutes “service” would be an issue as well.

A lot of high schools today are pushing “mandatory volunteering”; our peers have simply made arrangements to sign off on each others’ childrens’ volunteering though none took place, because it is ridiculous. We are feeding masses in this country that do nothing but breed, watch TV, and get high; make them “volunteer” for their daily bread.

“the tip of the sphere
Don’t you mean the tip of the spear? I’m having a really hard time picturing a sphere with a tip. I suspect autocorrect will be the death of us all.”

Yes, you are correct. I was thinking in circles when I wrote it.

Totally agree. When men start getting pregnant and going through childbirth then women can register for the draft.

As long as boomers are alive to remember Viet Nam there isn’t going to be a draft. There is zero need for women to register. We have the greatest military inthe world and its all voluntary.
