The Virginia National Guard on Friday responded to a Democratic lawmaker after he suggested that it may be needed to enforce new gun legislation.
The remarks from Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) suggesting that Gov. Ralph Northam (D) “may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law” comes as dozens of counties across Virginia have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries” after Democrats took over the state legislature last election.
"We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role,” the Virginia National Guard wrote in a statement posted on Twitter Friday.
“We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard,” it added.
Northam had previously hinted that should the Democratic-controlled state legislature pass stricter gun legislation and law enforcement not follow it, there would be consequences.
"If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be some consequences," Northam said Thursday, according to WSET.
"But I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it," he added.

This ditz doesn’t realize that she’s surrounded by men with guns, who are reluctantly tolerating her presence at their range? This is why the NRA is here to stay.
The governor is in the worng here. Dead wrong.
Every citizen can in god faith rely on the Bill of Rights and enforce the right himslef.
This is civil disobedience on the part of the various countiies becoming 2nd amendment sanctuaries. If the goovernor decides to use force, then the counties will form Committees of Safety and Militia to fight.
This is a losing game for the Governor, unless he wants to create 12 or more Alamos in the State of Virginia.And then he will have a price on his head.
Two things the governor will never be able to confiscate:
1) Virginian guns
2) Virginian Bibles
Anyone who didn't vote for these SOBs isn't getting what they voted for, and if this happens it's a template for other states, yours included. We ALL have to stand with the Virginians opposed to tyranny.
So, what can we do, other than cheerlead. I’m stone broke and overseas. Ra ra ra. Sissboomba. But that doesn’t help you any. I’m getting into journalism in a small way, and I can write about your fight and hope to get published.
Obviously you can't physically stand with Virginians, but perhaps a group will rise up that needs your monetary support. Help that way.

Interesting how sanctuary areas for guns are bad, but A-OK for protecting illegal alien scum.
The former right clearly delineated in the Constitution, while the latter is clearly illegal.
