Virginia National Guard responds after Democratic lawmaker suggests it may be needed to enforce gun control measures

The Virginia National Guard on Friday responded to a Democratic lawmaker after he suggested that it may be needed to enforce new gun legislation.

The remarks from Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) suggesting that Gov. Ralph Northam (D) “may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law” comes as dozens of counties across Virginia have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries” after Democrats took over the state legislature last election.

"We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role,” the Virginia National Guard wrote in a statement posted on Twitter Friday.

“We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard,” it added.

Northam had previously hinted that should the Democratic-controlled state legislature pass stricter gun legislation and law enforcement not follow it, there would be consequences.

"If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be some consequences," Northam said Thursday, according to WSET.

"But I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it," he added.

“He would be activating them for state use, not nationalizing them.”

Roger that. Thanks for the clarification.

Interesting how sanctuary areas for guns are bad, but A-OK for protecting illegal alien scum.

You want to come after gun owners with The National Guard?

Their necks will be permanently kinked from looking over their shoulders forever.

POTUS: This is President Trump, I just federalized all your National Guard/Reserve Troops in your state and ordered them to go home.

No no no. Order them to occupy all sanctuary cities and detain any and all who refuse in enforce federal immigration law.

This works both ways.

Remember, they are NOT going to come door to door for your AR-15.

That is just a right wing pipe dream they have when they get together at their Quarterly (now illegal) Militia Training.

The President is the ultimate commander...the "Commander-In-Chief"...of *all* uniformed member of the Armed Forces. That includes active duty, retired,Reserves and Army and Air National Guard.

It would take the President about 5 minutes...and one phone call...to "Federalize" the Virginia Army National Guard.

Guard units are “nationalized” when called up by the federal government. Northam is Virginia’s governor, not the US President. He can call up the VNG for major emergencies, respond to invasions, etc. Ordinary policing, probably not. Only scenario for VNG related to Northam’s anti-2ndA agenda would be a large scale armed insurrection.

If they violated constitutional laws that would be one thing. But Northam is referring to unconstitutional laws. Which no one has an obligation to obey and he has no authority to enforce.

If he attempts to use force to enforce unconstitutional laws then any resistance, passive or violent, is legally Justified. I think it would be accurate to say such resistance would be encouraged by the Constitution.

If there was any possibility that the guard would refuse the the governor’s orders in this instance, they would have responded with something like, “ we would have to wait for the courts to confirm the legality of the National Guard doing such a thing”.

This response is pretty much a guarantee that they would do just what they were ordered to do.

All of that said, this was nothing more than a statement attempting to intimidate local leaders coming out in favor of 2nd Amendment sanctuaries. I don’t believe the legislature or the governor has the balls to do such a thing. Because in order to do so they would have to believe that no serious resistance would occur. And I think they probably realize that there would be genuine armed resistance and shooting. I think they also realize that once the killing starts all bets are off.

But I think the day is coming when they will cease to believe we will stand up to them. And then they will do just what they say.

They don’t need to come to your door to get your guns. All they need to do is wait until they discover you have one and then confiscate your house and entire personal property in criminal forfeiture like they do with cars and money when they find illegal drugs.

Gun banners like to believe that if they pass a law requiring guns to be turned in, that gun owners will turn them in because they are ‘law abiding’ and not at all like criminals.

One wonders how many of these NG troops they plan on sending door to door to confiscate firearms own the firearms they’re being sent to confiscate?

Calling up the NG is not “nationalizing” them.

Nationalizing a NG outfit means the Feds take over not some blackface wearing Governor.

If they had bothered to vote, most of this crap would not be happening. Low GOP turnout in areas were the results were very close decided the fate of Virginia.

OK. Call out the New York, California, Oregon, Illinois and whatever other national guards there are to enforce US immigration law, then.

Realistically, they wouldn’t obey an unconstitutional law, because they live there and eventually have to come home to their families. The USSR would never send in locals to do dirty work for this reason.

“”If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be some consequences,” Northam said Thursday, according to WSET. “

And if SCOTUS says the law is unconstitutional, you’ll use the VA National Guard for what, exactly? To secede?

Yes, Virginia will not only secede, but set out to conquer Maryland and seize the Capitol. That’ll show that yankee rail-splitter what fer! Nobody’ll take away our slaves, or let them get their cotton-pickin’ hands on guns.
