An AR15 type firearm offers many advantages for defense of self and home. Sufficient magazine capacity is one.

Not a great choice in an apartment due to over penetration. Ill take a Glock 21 with one of the Korean extended magazines, which Ive found quite reliable.
Still, he gets a passing grade on the 1st Rule of a Gunfight: Have a Gun.

So who is responsible for repairing all the holes in the walls, the renter or the apartment complex?

Good for the resident but, 14 rounds? He needs some tactical defensive training..

The home defender estimated he fired between 14 and 17 rounds Marksmanship aside, in either California or New York this fellow would have had the bolt lock back at 10 rounds - whereupon the perp would have calmly walked up and shot them both.

***Sufficient magazine capacity is one. ***
The very reason the 18 shot Henry rifle (1860) became very popular in the last days of the muzzle loaders. It even had a “speed loader” function before the King’s Patent Loading gate was designed.
No such thing as “too many” rounds in a magazine.

If this were in CA, the guy and his girlfriend would have been required to lay quietly on the floor to be executed by the masked home invader.

The perp was standing in the doorway and the good guy had to fire 14-17 rounds? As for the mag, all mine are 30 rounders, didnt know there was a greate capacity mag other than a drum mag.

Maybe not the best choice, but its nice to have a gun, any gun, in a life or death situation like that was.
But in close quarters? A short barreled 12 ga pump shotgun would be a show stopper.
