An AR15 type firearm offers many advantages for defense of self and home. Sufficient magazine capacity is one.

Not a great choice in an apartment due to over penetration. I’ll take a Glock 21 with one of the Korean extended magazines, which I’ve found quite reliable.
Still, he gets a passing grade on the 1st Rule of a Gunfight: Have a Gun.

Good for the resident but, 14 rounds? He needs some tactical defensive training.. Given combat statistics, he did pretty well.

AR15 style rifle with a shorter than 16” barrel and no butt stock (originally ;^). The advent of the “arm brace” made them a lot more useful. The arm brace is intended to fit over your forearm while shooting the pistol, but it works against your shoulder also.
Basically a way to have a sort of short barreled rifle w/o the Federal registration and $200 tax. A true butt stock is nicer, but then the $200 and registration...

The home defender estimated he fired between 14 and 17 rounds Marksmanship aside, in either California or New York this fellow would have had the bolt lock back at 10 rounds - whereupon the perp would have calmly walked up and shot them both.
