Yovanovitch Failed to Hang Trump Photo at Embassy in Ukraine, President Says

Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch failed to hang a photo of President Donald Trump at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv for more than a year after Trump’s inauguration and said “bad things” about him, the president told Fox News in an interview on Nov. 22.

The White House recalled Yovanovitch from her post in Kyiv on April 24, 2019, after months of allegations in the media claiming that she did not like Trump and was undermining him. Trump’s anecdote about the portrait, if confirmed, would become the first piece of evidence to substantiate the allegations.

“This ambassador that everyone says is so wonderful she wouldn’t hang my picture in the embassy ok? She’s in charge of the embassy. She wouldn’t hang it. It took like a year and a half or two years for her to get the picture up,” Trump said. “She said bad things about me. She wouldn’t defend me.”

Ambassadors are either career (Foreign Service employees) or political appointees. Usually, career ambassadors tend to keep their position, at least for awhile, with a change of administrations. I don’t know about Foreign Service, but there is a tendency for lower-level political appointees to scramble to try to get Civil Service status when a new administration comes in.

Every foreign official and visitor sees the Chain of Command at an embassy: President, Secretary of State, and Ambassador. Trust me, this is a BIG deal.

Every embassy has a protocol officer in charge of the protocol section. I would expose that person-- and then have him rat out who was behind it.

Not hanging to picture is in full view and people will ask questions. A conservative will make a phone call to someone. That's why I indicated it was (1) hard to believe, and (2) it's a BIG deal if this went on for a year (or even close to a year).

Between the dates of election (Nov) and taking office (Jan), the official photos are sent out to every government installation and ships at sea.

This is inexcusable and if I were Pompeo, I'd burn the forest down and salt the earth so that DoS persons remember it for generations. Then I would call for the resignations of everyone that does not have full allegiance to the President.

Having worked in no less than 7 embassies.....this is absolutely SAVAGE, and I have a hard time believing someone did not inform Main State what was going on.
