Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders hasn't left the hospital since Tuesday night, and is still recovering from an operation to place two stents in a blocked artery.
But the 78-year-old socialist firebrand, the oldest person in the 2020 field, plans to be on stage for a Democratic presidential primary debate on October 15 in Ohio.
'Bernie is up and about, his wife Jane said in a statement. 'Yesterday, he spent much of the day talking with staff about policies, cracking jokes with the nurses and doctors, and speaking with his family on the phone.'
'His doctors are pleased with his progress, and there has been no need for any additional procedures,' she said. 'We expect Bernie will be discharged and on a plane back to Burlington before the end of the weekend. He'll take a few days to rest, but he's ready to get back out there and is looking forward to the October debate.'
Sanders canceled a string of presidential campaign events on Wednesday after suffering what a spokesman said was 'chest discomfort' that required the stents.

Time to dropout of the race Mr. Sanders.
I had a 3.5 inch stent in Chicago last year in an experimental surgery
I went home with approval to drive to Nashville the next morning
We stayed in Chicago and partied
This is a bit longer than usual
If he stays weekend something is amiss
Took a friend of mine 3 months to recover from the same event.
Same age.
I see nitroglycerine in your future.
I had a stent at 52, was out of the hospital within 24 hours. Had a week of home rest, mainly to make sure I didn’t tear my femoral artery stitches open, then back to work with unrestricted duty.
Yea, it's not that stent that's of concern, it's the years of restricted blood flow to the brain.
A 78 yr old with 2 new heart stents is just not going to be elected President///
What about a 76 year old with a patched up aneurism in his brain?
Funny, how the media ignores that one.
When did Bernies incident happen?
Well, according to the media Hillary is in the peak of health.
No sense trying to get clever or witty here:
Bernie Sanders is an angry, evil old commie. I hope he dies and burns in hell for all eternity.
Send him some coffin sales brochures.
“Bernie Sanders is an angry, evil old commie. I hope he dies and burns in hell for all eternity.”
I don’t think you have to worry your little head about that. That’s exactly how he’ll spend eternity.
I wish Bernie a quick recovery and a long retirement.
But if the worst happens, is Bernie gonna give the Dems a “Wellstone Memorial” moment? If so, will the Dems repeat their Wellstone blunder and leave their voters disgusted like 2002? Could the Dems resist?
RGB and BS, but I won’t team them with Keith Richards.
Bernie out? Biden on way out? Geez, I hope nobody same happens along. GO WARREN!
not a good sign. If you have a stent you can usually go home the same day. Worst case after an overnight stay.
you can work with CHF, don’t know about campaigning.
They would have done text for enzyme and troponin and echo to determine need for stent. If two stents done you can still have CHF separate problem.
sounds bad to public. But 2 stents is not counter-indicative of being in public office.
Procedure late Tuesday....if Id had stents late Tuesday if gone home yesterday baring complications
Go to your cardiologist
Continued tiredness can be symptomatic
