UPDATE 6:00 p.m.: Press Conference with Odessa Police Department.
The situation began when a DPS trooper pulled over a vehicle. The driver reportedly shot the trooper and drove away firing oat multiple people. There were multiple scenes and multiple victims. The suspect then allegedly stole the mail truck and drove to The Cinergy movie theater complex. Police engaged the suspect and shot killed. At least 21 shooting victims and five people dead, the Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said.
The suspect is reported to be a white male in his mid-twenties. Once this person was taken out of the picture there have been no further victims, the chief said.
UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: YourBasin.com reports one suspect has been shot and killed and a second suspect is in custody.
UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: Midland police report the active shooter was shot and killed at the Cinergy in Odessa. There are no active shooters at this time.
Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement on the shooting.
“The First Lady and I are heartbroken over this senseless and cowardly attack, and we offer our unwavering support to the victims, their families, and all the people of Midland and Odessa,” Governor Abbott said in a written statement provided to Breitbart Texas. “The state of Texas and the Department of Public Safety are working closely with local law enforcement to provide resources as needed and deliver justice for this heinous attack. I thank the first responders who have acted swiftly and admirably under pressure, and I want to remind all Texans that we will not allow the Lone Star State to be overrun by hatred and violence. We will unite, as Texans always do, to respond to...”

We had a state trooper come in and educate us about “active shooter.” It’s shorthand for any situation where the SWAT cowboys get to come in and act like they’re in a movie.
Department of Public Safety. Our version of the highway patrol.
It’s not local - these nut cases have access to the internet, radio, TV, etc. The mind rot travels across all demographics - look at the ubiquity of meth.
Now that I found out shooter was stopped by police. He might now even been from Texas at all.

I live in Midland.
Here’s the scoop. Shooting started when guy was pulled over by DPS on I-30. I20 is a highway that crosses Texas. So no clue where the guy is from.
Shot FPs officer and fled. In the process he started randomly shooting people in cars or along the way as he went into Odessa. One of these people is a dear friend. He is in serious condition. Shot in side and drove himself to hospital.
Shooter hijacked a mail truck. Per us regs mailmen are disarmed. So he had no chance.
He went to the Cynergy. The Cynergy is a new movie complex with bowling, rock climbing, restaurants etc. it’s in the middle area between midland and Odessa. The towns are now growing together.
He was corned in the parking lot and gunned down by Midland police, apparently with assistance of armed civilians.
He’s dead.
Odessa is the roughest town in Texas aside from Pecos.
It’s conservative, but not an apple pie place.
Just tough. You have to be to work and live there.

Got pulled over once going from Midland to Odessa. The cop asked me if I had a gun. I said NO. He pulled his out of his holster and said "Here, you can borrow mine"
Pretty much. Cop friend telling me they’re going to have a hard time telling who shot the guy.
Once he stopped moving, someone was going to shot him.
The car thing is hard. No way to react or defend against that.
DPS = Department of Public Safety. I think Louisiana has such a Department as well. It’s a holdover term from when the lands were under the dominion of French as Louisiana.
They carry out duties currently performed by the State Police in other US states. As in other places, they are called State Troopers. Their patrol cars say “State Trooper” and, in smaller print, “Department of Public Safety.”
In Midland/ Odessa??? We are talking oilfield workers many from across the border.
