“This was pre-ordained the day China took over from GB.”
Have a personal view of the takeover. My company put the roof on the Hong Kong airport and I was in HK the day the Brits turned over the colony to the Chinese. They had the turnover televised and it was striking. The British did the stiff flag removal and saluting ceremony. The Chinese for their part added a group of helo’s. dropping special forces onto the parade grounds, firing automatic weapons at a collection of blue balloons along a wall in the compound. Popped all the balloons so they weren’t firing blanks.
Thought it was definitely a show of future event possibilities. Wondered who the Hong Kong people thought the blue guys were. It was them of course and that was the point.
More likely would be a going away party, and Dont call us, well call you.
RE: The good citizens of Hong Kong can use their 1st and 2nd amendment rights.
There ain’t no such animal in HK.
That animal only exists in the USA and it is slowly being hunted won into extinction.
China "took over" nothing. They always were the owners of Hong Kong, they leased it to Britain, the lease was up.
Just as Reagan bankrupted the USSR with Star Wars, so Trump is bankrupting the PRC with tariffs. The current government may not last until the next US election. With Trump’s 2020 victory they will not last into 2021.
The lease was a “99 year lease” which, under common law, is the longest possible lease, used in lieu of indefinite duration. And it would have been more appropriate to return Hong Kong to Taiwan since the lease (last of three) was made with Qing China. Instead the Handover was to the People’s Republic of China, a revolutionary government which ironically doesn’t brook any criticism of its own rule.
Stupid British are responsible for this because they gave HK to China.
There is probably a large segment of society in China that is making a living enough to get food, clothes and roofs over their heads.
And another segment of middle class that was enjoying a prosperous existence.
And the government was not inclined to step on them while all was going good economically as they drained money from the West.
But as things get tougher and the Communist government pulls back the curtain to show the fist without the velvet glove people there and abroad are going to see what they are really all about.
That’s pretty much how I see it. And it’s a common tale. Everybody’s a nice guy when things are going great. It’s when things are not that people and organizations show their true colors.
Protesters were complete idiots to cause the airport to shut down.
The insane thing is, we have people in the West, in this country, and even some here on this very forum who think the Communist Chinese way of doing things is just fine and that we should emulate it.
Just amazing.

Maybe it’s time to revisit the KENT STATE UNIVERSITY massacre by the Ohio National Guards in 1970. What should the guards have done then in the face of violent protests?
Can confirm the airport is closed, my brother in law was there on business and can’t get out of Hong Kong. It was massive chaos, protest and huge crowds inside the terminal, he barely was able to get through security (he said a “guardian angel” helped him get through, one of the last ones to make it through, and he is now resting in the very last space in a lounge area on the other side of security. Please be praying for him and others who are wanting to be able to leave the country. He is hoping it will reopen tomorrow and he can get a flight out through Taiwan or Japan to get home.
There are some youtube videos by a guy who does motorcycle rides through china to give a video log of what’s actually out there. It makes Mexico look appealing.
Don’t need a 2nd amendment in China...’cause everybody be kung-fu fightin’...those kids were fast as lightnin’...
Not really leftist is a sloppy word. In ordinary use, we use it to mean socialist, where the state owns the means of production. China has a market economy. It has an authoritarian political structure where unelected goons run the country.
The US is no different. It has a market economy. It has a deep state political structure running politics.
The only difference is in China, we know who the rulers are. In the US, the deep state operatives are well hidden.
Think about it. Who is more fearsome?
Thank you. Prayers up for his continued safety. This weekend it was suggested this was an advance by China, militarily. After all we have seen in our own country... it is so difficult to navigate peaceable protests vs paid leftist #protestitutes Hired, brown shirts.
It is pretty apparent even after all these years that Kent State was a mistake that escalated due to poorly trained National Guard troops not suited for crowd control.
I don’t any kind of analogy to the current situation.
Back then there were organizations like SDS and the Yippies present on campus advocating for violent protest and overthrow of the country.
And those people in SDS and the Yippies should have been dealt with under existing statutes for sedition. But the worm had already turned on this, and there wasn’t going to be anyone taking care of business on that end back then.
Instead, they put a bunch of green National Guard troops carrying loaded M-1 Garands with no significant crowd control training in front of a crowd that contained people just itching for a violent confrontation.
In this case, the 1997 agreement that said that things would remain the same until 2047 with respect to lifestyle, governance and such. Granted, it is no surprise that the Communists would sign anything to get their foot in the door and then crap on it when it was convenient to do so.
There are apparently a huge number of abjectly poor people in China living as they did in 1930 who sound much like the “Proles” in Orwell’s “1984”.
I have a friend from Hong Kong, those purported videos are several years old and are from mainland China.
