The already large field of Democratic presidential candidates has grown again: Joe Sestak, a former Pennsylvania congressman with an extensive military background, said Sunday that he plans to seek the presidency.
Im Joe Sestak, and I wore the cloth of the nation for over 31 years in peace and war, from the Vietnam and Cold War eras to Afghanistan and Iraq and the emergence of China, he said in a video announcing his candidacy.
A retired three-star admiral, Sestak represented Pennsylvanias 7th congressional district for two terms, from 2007 to 2011, and has mounted two unsuccessful runs for the US Senate.
His experience, during his 31-year naval career, included a command position in a region now much in the news: In 2002, he led a carrier strike group during combat operations in the Gulf.
Sestak, whose father was a navy man, also served on the national security staff under President Bill Clinton. He holds a doctorate in government and political economy from Harvard.
Sestak has a reputation as something of a maverick and party outsider.
He is pro-choice, supports gun control, and backed the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Sestaks late entry into an already crowded field which he said came after his daughters brain cancer returned will complicate his path forward.
Along with three other candidates, he missed the cutoff to be included in the first two televised debates, which will feature 20 Democratic candidates and be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Miami.

Blatant
Sestak is the classic political hack and perfumed prince of a flag officer.
Definitely not a “In Case of War, Break Glass” kind of guy.
I expect Sleestak to gain all the traction that Webb gained in the 2016 race...
What “combat operations” in 2002?
Did this mean “missile” attacks on Iraq? If so, when?
Ground ops didn’t begin until about 3:00 AM March 20, 2003. My son was one of the first American soldiers into Iraq, jumping off with Kuwaiti engineers.
I won’t deny Sestak his service but I’d like to know more about it. We don’t want another John Kerry running, do we?
seriously?!
Eh, who needs to be in the first debate(s)? He was an admiral ( really?) and he has a touching story of his daughter’s cancer.
When smoke clears he sees a clear path to mediocrity.
2 failed PA SEnate races? Perfect candidate for Democrats for Prez.
Thank you for recalling the “FR Rules” when Slestak last ran for Senate.
The rule continues to apply.
Same with that Dowd chick...
Yes, yes I did.
Not a fan of “the original ewok, tho”.
Consistent watcher every Saturday moorning!
Majority of the flag ranks are left wing, and some pretty far left. You should google Gen. (Ret) Barry McCaffrey's twitter feed to see how the upper echelon of the military thinks. Here's an examples:
" Barry R McCaffrey Verified account @mccaffreyr3 Jun 17 Barry R McCaffrey Retweeted The Washington Post Buttigieg is an incredibly gifted and thoughtful Presidential candidate. He would also be a superb Sec State or Sec Def."
ChiSox just lost a tough one in beantown. Herrera & Frye stink.
PS. Biden must wait til Th for a cuddle opportunity.
Marianne, Kirsten, Kamala give a chance to sniff the Pantene.
The arrangement of candidates is based on polls, not random.
Biden in center, flanked by Mayor BG & Bernie.
Warren in center, flanked by Beto, Booker
Delaney, deBlasio, Marianne, Swalwell well get the 4 end spots
Ok, can u top this ...
One of my cats was nowhere to be found for a few hours Sun. I finally found him in the attic beneath the floor, sticking his nose in the 1/8 inch space between boards.
He had snuck into the gap between the floor and wall and crawled 12 feet under ... To the middle of room.
Took me about 40 minutes to pry up the board so he could get out.
Someday, I’ll fix the damage .
Well I’m glad he was found A-OK.
I’d say you win but here’s mine, shortly after we got the cats, one disappeared, she was found in the basement apartment many hours later, she got there through a hole in the bathroom wall and jumped down from the ceiling tiles.
There is also a floor hole that has a little hiding place between the boards, had to put a heavy tile over that sh*t. Impossible to extract, had to coax out with food.
There were naughty little acrobats and contortionists before they got tubby.
Lately, one them attacks the mail if leave it where I usually do, and she flipped the light switch, twice.
They luv mail & weekly paper.
Catching chimpmunks.
I am bringing tomorrow to get em all tested for the leukemia virus. Their sister who adopted elsewhere tested positive, so I’m expecting the same.
Vetco at Petco.
That’s very bad. The ones who have leukemia must be quarantined from those that don’t. If they all have it (I hope not), then it won’t matter. Several of mine had it and they didn’t live long. :-(
