CHIANG MAI, Thailand (Nov. 16) -- Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said Monday that he had no regrets about his handling of the Iran hostage crisis more than 30 years ago, saying he didn't attack the country as his advisers proposed because thousands of people would have died. Islamic militants stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran on Nov. 4, 1979, and seized its occupants. Fifty-two Americans were held hostage for 444 days. Carter acknowledged that his failure to bring the hostages home — including a botched rescue mission in which eight U.S. servicemen died — led to his election defeat...

Around 3 a.m., the nurse was pushing Manning's wife in a wheelchair when Manning began making comments to the nurse and touched her breast, said Police Lt. Loring Draper. A group of renowned world leaders have discovered that the previously known "Bridge To Nowhere" actually leads directly to Obama! This shocking discovery was made by a collective of physicists, governmental analysts and folks standing in line outside of Cobo Hall in Detroit waiting for their stimulus money from Obama's "stash"! Researchers had previously denied that the bridge went anywhere, but since the Nobel Committee announcement, Obama is the center of the entire universe, it became obvious to all that this bridge MUST in fact lead to Obama. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, when reached on the satellite phone in...

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Former Pink Floyd lead singer Roger Waters narrated a United Nations film about Palestinian difficulties caused by the security fence. The 15-minute film opened Wednesday to mark the fifth anniversary of the International Court of Justice's opinion that the fence's route is illegal, the French news agency AFP reported. Waters wrote the lyrics to the Pink Floyd album "The Wall." Israel says the wall almost completely stopped Palestinian suicide attacks during the second intifada. The Palestinians charge that the fence cuts off Palestinian farmers from their land and will prohibit them from forming a state in the...

OGDEN -- Was it a friendly group bicycle ride through downtown Ogden or a confrontational melee that included obstructing traffic, assault, obscenities and alcohol? Depends on who you talk to. Numbers vary from 35 to 70, but a large group of cyclists, referred to as Critical Mass, was taking a monthly ride to celebrate cycling and assert their rights to the road on Friday when Ogden police say things got out of hand. Four individuals were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and public intoxication. Matt Hasenyager, owner of Skyline Cycle and one of the bicyclists, said...

His lack of integrity was deeply troubling, but it was the world-class arrogance that did the real military damage. It should be evident to all that Robert S. McNamara, to paraphrase a line from the 1940 book Guilty Men, was among the worst selections for high office since Caligula chose to make his horse a consul at Rome. He died July 6 at age 93. TodayÂ’s officials can profit from studying his career. McNamara, the Pentagon chief in the Kennedy and Johnson years, showed sketchy character on many occasions, but nowhere did he do this more baldly than in his...

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama administration "misread how bad the economy was" but stands by its stimulus package and believes the plan will create more jobs as the pace of its spending picks up. Biden, in an interview airing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," said the nation's 9.5 percent unemployment rate is "much too high." "The figures we worked off of in January were the consensus figures and most of the blue chip indexes out there," Biden said. "We misread how bad the economy was, but we are now only about 120 days into the recovery...

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last. President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled. Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley. He bowled a 129, the president said. "That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically. It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said. When asked about the remark,...

It looks like President Obama hasn't gotten acquainted to his White House surroundings. On the way back to the Oval Office Tuesday, the President approached a paned window, instead of the actual door -- located a few feet to his right. Doors didn't open automatically for Obama’s predecessor either. While making a hasty exit from a 2005 press conference in Beijing, former President George W. Bush tugged on the handles of a door, only to find it locked.

For the first time in years, record producer and rapper John Forte, a former member of the Fugees, spent the holidays out of prison and is planning a new life helping troubled youth. It was a mission that Sen. Orrin Hatch assured Forte would commit to when the Utah Republican asked for Forte's release from prison in a 2006 letter obtained through an open records request. "In prison he is teaching guitar and music to his fellow inmates. He is writing songs with messages that today's youth need to hear -- from someone they will respond to, like John Forte,"...

I have closely researched the constitution and bylaws of the Republican State Committee, and nowhere do I find a provision for designating registered Republicans as RINOs (Republicans in name only). So who is it that has the authority to make such a designation? The RINO designation is being bandied about by certain self-appointed Reagan Republicans as though they have the sole claim to be real Republicans. Was it not Ronald Reagan who popularized the phrase "the big tent," under which all Republicans to the left or right were welcome? Now we have this shrinking minority of so-called Reagan Republicans claiming...

A failed suicide nail bomber left a note blaming the "disgusting" behaviour of Britons and the "war on Islam" for his attack, a court has heard. Nicky Reilly, 22, from Plymouth, last month admitted attempted murder and preparing an act of terrorism at Exeter's Giraffe restaurant in May. The Muslim convert's note insisted he was not "brainwashed or indoctrinated". On Friday, a court put back Reilly's sentencing until 30 January to allow doctors to assess his mental state. Defence barrister Kerim Fuad said several doctors were concerned that Reilly's extremist views, which had appeared to have dissipated, could be triggered...

The Republican Party will file federal lawsuits Thursday seeking to overthrow the McCain-Feingold federal campaign finance regulations, Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. "Mike" Duncan revealed Wednesday night at a private dinner with the nation's Republican governors. John McCain of Arizona, who was dramatically outspent by Democrat Barack Obama, and of President Bush, who signed McCain-Feingold into law in 2002. "We will bring two federal suits tomorrow to strengthen the Republican Party," Mr. Duncan told The Washington Times. Mr. Duncan said one...

We just don’t get it. The Left in America is screaming to high heaven that the mess we are in in Iraq and the war on terrorism has been caused by the right-wing and that George W. Bush, the so-called “dim-witted cowboy,” has created the entire mess. The truth is the entire nightmare can be traced back to the liberal democratic policies of the leftist Jimmy Carter, who created a firestorm that destabilized our greatest ally in the Muslim world, the shah of Iran, in favor of a religious fanatic, the ayatollah Khomeini. Carter viewed Khomeini as more of a...

West Virginia Democrat Senator Jay Rockefeller was being interviewed the editorial board of the Charleston Gazette. During that interview he uttered this gem: "McCain was a fighter pilot, who dropped laser-guided missiles from 35,000 feet. He was long gone when they hit. What happened when they (the missiles) get to the ground? He doesn't know. You have to care about the lives of people. McCain never gets into those issues." First of all ... I rather seriously doubt that our military was using laser-guided bombs during the Vietnam War. Also, the aircraft that McCain was flying in Vietnam was not...

I have been bugged out with the flu, and as a result I've seen a lot of the commentary — including, of course, "expert" commentary, which has been something less than expert. The general approach of the federal law to prostitution mimics its approach to gambling. They are activities that tend to generate big profits for organized crime syndicates, which profits not only enrich the racketeers but underwrite their various other rackets, including loan-sharking, narcotics trafficking, murder-for-hire, etc. In Governor Spitzer's case, moreover, it's worth remembering the Nevada senator character in Godfather II who is blackmailed into doing the Corleones'...
