Republican Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill into law Monday that requires someone convicted of a sex offense against a child under the age of 13 to begin chemical castration a month before being released from custody.
The law requires individuals convicted of such an offense to continue treatments until a court deems the treatment is no longer necessary. It says offenders must pay for the treatment, and they cant be denied parole solely based on an inability to pay.
This bill is a step toward protecting children in Alabama, Ivey said.

Skip the chemicals, go straight to Ginsu............
why stop there? Why not have mandatory drug treatments for every crime? I’m not exactly more comfortable with a murderer of his meds.
I support physical castration upon conviction or perhaps after losing the first appeal of a conviction.
As Shakespeare wrote: Wine giveth the desire but taketh away the ability.
I’ve believed for decades that this is the way to handle convicted child molesters and serial rapists. It’s cheap and, I believe, will be highly effective regarding repeat offenders.
Disagree with this. If the only way they can be released is doing this, then keep them in prison.
If they are a zero risk, the government shouldn’t mutilate people. If they cannot be released without that mutilation, they should remain behind bars.
If that means life, it means life.
Chemical castration, isnt that temporary? Also, cant a violent person still attack and do stuff without testosterone? I thought it was still possible. The castrati could still have sex.
If they’re going to eventually get out of prison and back into society, then chemical castration should be a part of their sentencing, I agree.
:”It says offenders must pay for the treatment, and they cant be denied parole solely based on an inability to pay.”
WTF, so if they can’t pay for the treatment, they’ll be released anyway, or do the citizens of Alabama have to pay for it so they can be released?
Physical / chemical castration used to be a more common solution before the ACLU lawyers jumped in. If the convicted agrees to the treatment, they could reduce their sentence by 6-12 months.
It’s unclear how they monitor or ensure the castration if the convicted moves out of state, or out of country.
they cant be denied parole solely based on an inability to pay
Chemical castration may reduce sex drives, but they can also raise the level of stimulus required for satisfaction. The lowered sex drive does not stop the subject from performing other antisocial behaviors, does not stop the subject from seeking other outlets.
There’s a better way of castration for those who deserve it, involving a baseball bat, a boxcutter and a blowtorch.
Reminds me of Ag. Class in High School.
I suspect it could replace prison altogether. I see it kinda like gouging out the eyes of a peeping tom. No prison necessary.
Are you implying that pedophiles will murder rather than molest and rape?
Are their studies and stats which prove that point?
