Law enforcement officials recovered a silencer from the scene of Fridays deadly shooting in Virginia Beach. Several politicians have since called for outright bans on private possession of the devices. Here are key facts about suppressors/silencers.
Politicians are calling for a ban on silencers after a disgruntled Virginia Beach, Virginia, city employee used one while gunning down 12 co-workers.
It was reported that the gunman, DeWayne Craddock, 40, used two .45-caliber handguns equipped with extended magazines and one with a suppressor.

And just as pointless and ineffective as the “bump stock” ban which can be circumvented with a heavy duty rubber band or a dozen other ways. A perfectly serviceable silencer can be constructed with a motorcycle muffler and some heat tape, there are dozens of videos floating around the internet.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I’d like to see a silencer put on the Abrahms Battleax and the Clinton Canklemaster.
Stupid, as usual. This would be the camel’s nose in the tent, the first baby step to elimination of guns, forget the second amendment.
We need to eliminate bad people, not objects.
“... shall not be infringed”.
Take these schmucks to an indoor range and let them experience “silencers” without hearing protection.
Silencer sales going through the roof in 3.....2....1....
How many silencers are used in murder situations? I know...it doesnt matter to the banners.....
Coke can and duct tape.
Problem solved.
***A perfectly serviceable silencer can be constructed....***
I still have some FIREPOWER MAGAZINES from the 1980s showing how to make a silencer from a two liter soda pop bottle.
From the FP article, it works fine for a few shots.
They’ll spend months trying to figure out the difference between a silencer and a suppressor.
My several suppressors won’t be going anywhere without me.
In WA, flash hiders are forbidden.
Was the shooter wearing underwear? We might need additional bans. Where are all the calls for banning underwear? And shoes, I bet he was wearing shoes and they allowed him to move faster than if he were barefoot. Where are all the calls to ban Nike assault shoes?
At the link, “politicians” = mostly Hillary Clinton. Considering the number of professional hits she has ordered, you’d think she would know that a suppressor only knocks the sound down about 20 Db. Pre-emptive incarceration of guys named DeWayne would do much more to reduce crime, and noise, than banning mufflers. I assume Hillary is for that, too.
A suppressor did NOT enable this tragedy. Just a bunch of desperate, ignorant politicians grasping at straws to blame something other than the nut case who pulled the trigger....
