COLDSPRING, TX Elected officials in an East Texas community defiantly illuminated the crosses on their courthouse after an atheist organization told them to take them down. The move came after the county judge and commissioners voted unanimously to keep the four crosses on the county building.
Breitbart News reported that the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) complained to San Jacinto County public officials about the prominent display of the Latin cross[es]. The self-described state/church watchdog claims it has over 30,000 members.
The foundation issued an Action Alert to its supporters on May 7th saying, A concerned Coldspring resident reported to FFRF that San Jacinto County has the crosses up all year round and even lights the crosses during the holiday season. The organization that calls itself a nonprophet nonprofit asked members to Tell San Jacinto commissioners to remove courthouse crosses.

Good response!
Amen
Excellent!
Go, Texas.
If only other states would learn from them.
“...the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) ”
Just so you ALL know - these people are evil, grifter SCUM.
The Mom, the daughter and her husband have been bilking atheists and others out of their money for DECADES, now.
They are set up as a non-profit and have lined their OWN pockets trying to destroy Christianity. It’s a GIMICK! They’re WORSE than ANY Ambulance Chaser you’ve EVER seen!
*SPIT*
Why is it the business of ANYONE from Wisconsin as to what happens in Texas. Stay home, cheese heads.
An establishment against religion is an establishment of religion in and of itself.
Why should it be respected and others not?
fight back and tell these idiots to take a flying leap. WI based group going after a cross they have never seen probably.
“An establishment against religion is an establishment of religion in and of itself.”
I believe that Atheism is a GREAT Religion!”
Texans should show these people how to “swim with a couple hundred pounds of chain!” I am so tired of small groups who make it “their life’s work” to go around trying to enforce their “misguided values” on the rest of us. It is long past time for everyone to tell groups like FFRF to go mind their own f*cking business! You don’t believe in God, fine, that’s your right. But it’s also the right of the rest of us to have our beliefs protected from the likes of you! It’s way, way past time for “our courts” to be fleshed out with people who completely respect and understand every last word in our Constitution. And in that effort, we can give President Trump a A+! Appointment by appointment, he is changing the face of our Federal Judiciary. Now of only Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg would opt for her traditional 24 hour Capo Funeral so Trump could appoint her 40 year old successor, life would be great! I truly hate Bitch McConnell with a passion, but at least he’s helping Trump with the judges, if not with anything else.
Atheism is a religion like not
playing football is a sport.
I thought if we agreed to remove statues of military heroes from the courthouse square, everything would be o.k.
Apparently the agenda has not been completed.
These crosses are on the building itself. But with the regard to Nativity Scenes and Christmas decorations or statues of Robert E. Lee etc. in front of the courthouse, I’ve always thought it would be best to sell some of the green space for a dollar to a church, or some sort of chartered private organization who is tasked with doing things the way they’ve always been done.
The self-described state/church watchdog claims it has over 30,000 members.

I’d almost bet that not one lives in Coldsping, Tx
Why is it the business of ANYONE from Wisconsin as to what happens in Texas. -—————
It’s headquartered in Wisconsin, but they run their scam all over the country. They find a cross somewhere on public property, claim a local complained and threaten a lawsuit. Most of their targets can’t afford the court costs involved in fighting such a lawsuit and take the crosses down. The threat alone is enough for them to usually get their way.
They pulled this stunt in my wife’s hometown. The town removed the Christmas cross on the water tower. But it was replaced by hundreds of crosses on private homes.
May the sun always shine bright on the Lone Star State
And don't mess with the Republic of Texas!
And don't mess with the Republic of Texas!
Its about time that someone is actually standing up for America
