2020 presidential contender Bernie Sanders faced an aggressive and, at times, outwardly combative audience at the She The People Forum devoted to women of color in Houston on Wednesday, as the self-described democratic socialist struggled to convince attendees of his commitment to minority and underprivileged communities.
The tense moments underscored the challenges Sanders' campaign still faces despite its frontrunner status. The 77-year-old Vermont senator, long a champion for progressive causes, has sought to win over voters who turned out in massive numbers to support former President Barack Obama.
In a particularly striking moment, host Aimee Allison asked Sanders what he would do to fight white-supremacist violence. In response, Sanders launched into a familiar anecdote that -- perhaps precisely because of its familiarity -- seemed to crash and burn.

As long as people remain in and fight from their particular area of privilege within the Dems then Trump should romp it in for 2020. If they are able to find one unifying voice they may be able to stop themselves from tearing each other apart. The trick will be to keep all of them engaged without totally crushing each of them. It is why I think Trump likes to engage AOC and others it makes them feel like somebody, gets their ego up. Keeps them interested in trying to make their way over the bodies of other Dems careers.

Sanders was asked by a Harvard student if he supports "enfranchising people" like Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, whom she noted was a "convicted terrorist and murderer," as well as "those convicted of sexual assault."

Why is ‘white supremist violence’ being made into a paper tiger? And what is ‘white supremist’ violence anyway (besides the obvious swass wearing uniformed skinhead acting a fool)? Is hate speech automatically white supremist if a white person says it? What if hate speech is directed at a white person? Is it a crime, or just being rude? Are there no stats because it’s not a big issue to begin with?
