If people have a question regarding bump stocks we recommend that they direct their questions to the ATF. The Idaho office can be reached at E251 Front Street, Suite 204, Boise, ID 83702 or by calling (208) 334-1160. The Department of Justice amended the regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) following an executive order issued in December to clarify that bump-stock-type devicesmeaning bump fire stocks, slide-fire devices, and devices with certain similar characteristicsare machineguns as defined by the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Gun Control Act of 1968 because such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger. Specifically, these devices convert an otherwise semiautomatic firearm into a machinegun by functioning as a self-acting or self-regulating mechanism that harnesses the recoil energy of the semiautomatic firearm in a manner that allows the trigger to reset and continue firing without additional physical manipulation of the trigger by the shooter. Hence, a semiautomatic firearm to which a bump-stock-type device is attached is able to produce automatic fire with a single pull of the trigger. With limited exceptions, the Gun Control Act, as amended, makes it unlawful for any person to transfer or possess a machinegun unless it was lawfully possessed prior to the effective date of the statute. Because the bump-stock-type devices covered by this final rule were not in existence prior to the effective date of the statute, they became prohibited when this rule became effective March 26. Consequently, people having these devices are required to destroy the devices or abandon them at an ATF office. This bump stock ban has been a disaster from day one. Look at the results. Crime has fallen overnight. The courthouses with special dumpsters have been filled with bump stocks as criminals and gang members have quietly filed in to turn in their bump stocks. Cities have contemplated laying off half of their police force from lack of anything to keep them busy.
They’re plastic. Throw them in the recycle bin.
Garbage premises misleading the public.

Here is what happened in plain English.
This is what the ATF said about bump stocks under Obama.
The stock has no automatically functioning mechanical parts or springs and performs no automatic mechanical function when installed. In order to use the device, the shooter must apply constant forward pressure with the non-shooting hands and constant rearward pressure with the shooting hand. Accordingly, we find that the bump stock is a firearm part and is not regulated as a firearm under the Gun Control Act or the National Firearms Act.
Now The ATF is defining bump stocks as a machine gun. A machine gun is defined in law is a weapon that can be fired multiple times by a single pull of the trigger. Using a bump stock the trigger is pulled not a single time but MULTIPLE times. There is no automatic sear in civilian rifles. The ATF is basically lying. Trump ordered them to lie. So they did.
The NRA agreed to this because they did not want to see a legislative vote that would affect the congressional scoring they do.

‘The NRA agreed to this because they did not want to see a legislative vote that would affect the congressional scoring they do.”
You, I and knowledgable others know these things and more which is why I called BS on what was written. I am also no longer a member of the NRA and haven’t been for many, many years as their actions to prolong the legislative game are in their self interest. A definitive ruling on 2A removes a bugaboo they continually use for financing.
If the NRA provided meaningful results to end the nigthmare of government tyranny in this matter their membership would be far higher than 5+ million members.
A short bungee cord looped through your belt and hooked to the trigger can do the same thing. Rednecks been doin it for decades.
