President Trump warns Mexico to stem flow of illegal immigration or face tariffs

President Trump is ramping up pressure on Mexico by warning the U.S. will impose auto tariffs on the country if it does not help stem the flow of the illegal immigration.

While speaking from the White House Thursday, the president gave Mexico a one-year deadline to step up efforts to curb the crisis. He warned if the country does not help by that time then the U.S. will close the border.

The president also expanded his threat to shutdown the border by acknowledging there would likely be economic impacts, but saying security is more important.

So an earlier article said 'stop the drugs', this one says 'stop illegal immigration'. Either way a year is way too long IMO.

Mr. President.

WHY did you delay, for an entire year?

Why?

The threats will ALWAYS be less effective than actions. A surprise shut-down of the border will let everyone know he’s 100% serious. He can reopen it at whatever time he feels is appropriate. He is, after all, tasked with the duty of keeping our borders protected and keeping the citizenry safe from invasion.

How?

How do you threaten to shut the border for three or four days then switch to something new?

I wouldn’t fear his threats if I was mexico either.

I LOVE 98 percent of what Trump does.

Not this.

At some point there will be civil and criminal liability for the murder, rapes, thefts, etc. that will be caused by 3% of the 1,200,000 illegals in the country by then. Then ill be too angry to care anymore.

So last week it was the close the border this week. Now everything is put off for a year. One year of 100,000+ people per month invading the US. Trump drew a clear line in the sand last week, now he completely folds without even a whimper.

Wait until we get the “full” story. It isn’t like Trump to go soft, so there is another shoe to drop in this matter.

Ooops..... He has fumbled the ball. He has lost the game

Action, immediate action is required. Mexico has determined, rightly apparently, our President is all talk.

I wonder if possibly he has changed his mind on the negotiations with China, and is about to take a firmer tact with China.

THAT would explain this. But otherwise I am completely without any clue, why he would do this.

Completely.

Javanka win again! Jared couldn’t hide his sneer when Ingraham brought up Trump’s threat of closing the border in his interview this week. He was beyond certain that Trump wouldn’t be following through.

Once word gets out that they have a year to get up here, hundreds of thousands will be headed this way.

Cool story. Can you explain why we should give a damn about the trade numbers if we lose the country with probably 2 or 3 million Mexicans a year pouring in?

Those numbers are meaningless if the great replacement of the US population happens here with Mexicans as it just did in Europe with moslems and Africans.

I think 2 or 3 get through for every “catch”. I may be wrong but more get through than are caught.
