Dick’s Sporting Goods’ bottom line took a very big hit after halting the sale of assault-style weapons in response to the Parkland school massacre.
The policy change cost the nation’s largest sporting goods retailer about $150 million in lost sales, about 1.7 percent of annual revenue, Bloomberg News reported Friday.

Those who supported the ban promised to become Dick’s customers but did not stay the course.

At the end of the day, it was an absolutely horrendous business decision. But, anyone that would buy a gun from that store either knows nothing about guns or doesn’t care about the price.

Business owners should think carefully before making policies based on politics. You can easily alienate half your customers. Not too smart.
I’m actually surprised that Dicks is the largest sporting goods retailer. I don’t think I’ve ever even noticed one of their stores, and definitely never been in one.

Today it’s Dick’s sporting goods.
They obviously have no understanding of their market.
I did my pert.
I went there a couple of times to look at kayaks and crossbows and bought them from Walmart’s online store instead.
I just wanted to see before I bought.
I was never a big fan of Dick’s Sporting Goods but I won’t go in there anymore.
I used to regularly shop at Target too but I haven’t been in a Target over the last few years. They won’t see a dime of my money either.

Just what is the definition of an “assault rifle”? Is it ANY rifle with an “AR” as part of its nomenclature? Or just SOME rifle with a detachable magazine, that has a semi-automatic sequence of ejecting the spent cartridge, placing another round in the chamber, cocking the weapon, all in preparation of squeezing the trigger in initiation of a the sequence all over again?
The purpose of a semi-automatic weapon, be it handgun, rifle, or shotgun, is to make it simple to repeat squeezing the trigger until the sumbich falls down.

They weren’t where I shopped for fire arms. However, I did buy a lot of sporting goods, camping goods and hiking wear there. When they decided to Virtue Signal that they hated me and those that thought like me, I decided to NEVER give them a DIME of my business or my families’ business FOREVER.
They would have been welcome to change their product emphasis without opening their mouth and not suffered my ire — its a free country. But telling me they hate me and despise my thinking is very final
Bass Pro/Cabela’s is slightly larger by revenue. Dicks has five times as many stores.
