Macron steals Trump’s thunder with Chinese Airbus order

PARIS — While U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for a trade deal to slash his country’s yawning deficit with China, it was his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron who landed a €30 billion aviation contract with Beijing on Monday.

China concluded a deal to buy 300 aircraft from Airbus during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to France. The value of the deal was twice what was touted last year, and only compounds the woes of U.S. manufacturer Boeing, whose 737 MAX planes have been grounded across the world this month, after two fatal crashes.

The deal struck in France will ratchet up pressure on Trump to come good on his long-promised trade accord with China. That agreement seemed to be facing headwinds last week when Trump warned that tariffs on China would remain in place for a "substantial period" even if a Washington-Beijing deal is struck.

Macron on Monday stressed the “colossal progress” needed to rebalance trade between the two countries — the EU ran a trade in goods deficit with China of some €177 billion in 2017 — while also hailing a slew of deals done in the health, infrastructure, transport, renewable energy and financial sectors.

How is Trump’s fault that Boeing has had two crashes in two weeks?

I’ve NEVER seen one of these sites say Trump stole someone’s thunder even though a gazillion companies have invested money they didn’t plan to in the US.

Even the times when a factory was supposed to be opened in another country and was it was decided to open it here, not THUNDER was stolen by Trump on these news sites.

Screw it. We’re winning left and right this week.

They have to find something.

Chinese communists have always done this - bought Airbus or Boeing alternately.

I hope Boeing can right their business. I have fears Boeing may be going the way US auto makers did losing to the Japs.

China hacked those two planes and caused the crashes in retaliation for Trump’s trade war.

China hacked those two planes and caused the crashes. This was in retaliation for Trump’s hardball economic policies.

Recall the root cause of the Boeing crashes was that their new and bigger engines causes a nose down attitude on take off

Maybe they need to re-engineer for engines mounted on top of the wings.

It would be nice if we could respond to your comment by saying that's impossible, or forgetting about China, nobody would ever do that on purpose.

Unfortunately, we've seen that kind of evil before.

The world is not a nice place. I read too much fiction not to suspect foul play in those crashes. One of the novels I read last year had a plot where the Chinese hacked into driver-less car networks and attacked major U.S. cities with swarms of them. It was pretty scary.

China saved Airbus last week I read Airbus had only 1 unfilled order and was closing its operation.

Boeing was forced by China to build a plant in China to get orders from the Chinese government. How did that work out for Boeing?

China promises to close the trade deficit by buying mor goods, all I see is soybeans. Trump should see this 30 rBillion dollar order and the EU 5G selecting Hauwei instead of Cisco and Qualcom as proof China wants to take over our role as internet leader

Mister President time to increase those tariffs you can’t
trust the Chinese
