While most attention has been focused on immigrants trying to enter the United States over Americas southern border, there is legal migration taking place that has been largely ignored, though it may have at least as much economic and political impact as the other.
People are moving out of high-tax states to Florida and other states with lower tax burdens.
Floridas new governor, Ron DeSantis, mentioned the movement in a speech to the Club for Growth, which describes itself as a national network of over 250,000 pro-growth, limited government Americans who share in the belief that prosperity and opportunity come from economic freedom.
DeSantis says New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has accused him of stealing residents from his state. Im not stealing anybody, said DeSantis, they are driving people away.
The data back him up. Chris Edwards of the Foundation for Economic Freedom, the first free-market organization in the United States, produced a research document for the Cato Institute that shows of the 25 highest-tax states, 24 of them had net out-migration in 2016. One of the states that gained from migration was Florida where 145 households moved in for every 100 that left.
DeSantis says this influx has fueled economic growth of the state, leading to a $1.4 billion revenue surplus.
Economist Richard Rahn has created a chart that includes a comparison between the tax rates of New York and Florida. He writes that while New York imposes high taxes and conveys an anti-business attitude (the recent debacle with New York City losing a headquarters for Amazon is just the latest example), Florida imposes no state and local income taxes in addition to the federal income taxyet Florida is booming, with a budget surplus, while New York is mired in debt . . .

BUMP my FRiend!
I’m next door in North Idaho. Lot’s of snow here too, but the calendar says spring will eventually get here.
Welcome! We are happy to have you!
I think Governor Desantis is on the right track.
There are a number of states on a path to destruction; I just hope they don’t pull the rest of us down with them!
LOL!
I know that, and you know that.
And we welcome those DAMMYANKEES who are fleeing high taxes and out of control Democrat insanity.
They just need to leave that behind them and start aFResh down here!
Might be just ‘a guess’ but I’m betting you’re right - middle class and above...
But they bring along the foolish voting habits that created the conditions which caused them to flee the old states.
Yup! On my fridge, I still have the picture of me, with the last load of snow on my snow shovel, from Germany right before we left for Maxwell AFB, Alabama in January, 1997*.
It reminds me every day that I hate shoveling snow!
*The winter of 1996/97 was the worst (coldest/snowiest) weather in Northwestern Europe since the winter of 1944/45—the same as the Frozen Battle of the Bulge winter!
Yup. Totally saddened by the thought.
What we have become... SMH.
Even back in the 60s some called it "God's waiting room".
Stay safe!
I was down in FL recently. Warm, and very crowded.
Even the wealthy areas are infected with......well, it's hard to describe. I think it's a spiritually dark presence. You really have to experience it to believe it.
When I retired I took jobs in other places. We still have not decided where we will "retire-retire."
I think the best thing about the US South is the people. They are just generally more well mannered, more patriotic, and nicer, than people elsewhere. That's just my opinion.
I dont see talking sense into leftards when there is not a working brain cell in that thing above their necks..

you look at most liberals in California you find that they are transplants or descendants of the
hippies that moved here during the sixties. long time families from California those going back four or more generations tend to be conservatives.
What I meant was not everyone who lives in a blue state votes blue. Some of us are very fiscally and socially conservative, we’re just heavily outnumbered!
I actually agree about the electoral college solution. There should be an electoral college-style election, county-by-county, for each statewide office, excepting U.S. Senators, which are mandated for the popular vote per the awful 17th Amendment.
The KKK was actually a form of feral liberalism, but based on race, rather than class.
Heck Billy Joel wrote a song about over 40 years ago....
You know those lights were bright on Broadway
That was so many years ago
Before we all lived here in Florida
Before the Mafia took over Mexico
There are not many who remember
They say a handful still survive
To tell the world about
The way the lights went out
And keep the memory alive
