Jared Kushner privately working on reshaping legal immigration
McClatchy News Service ^ | Feb 20 2019 | Franco Ordonez

Posted on 02/21/2019 9:32:03 PM PST by rintintin

As debate in public rages about illegal immigration and a border wall, Jared Kushner has been holding private meetings in the West Wing on ways to overhaul the legal immigration system, according to six people familiar with the conversations and documents obtained by McClatchy.

President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law is operating on at least two tracks -- the first is working with a small group studying specific ways to redistribute employment visas and the second is helping lead a series of “listening sessions” with about three dozen interest groups important to Trump to see if there is a position that Republicans can rally around before the 2020 elections.

“Jared has proven with the work he did on criminal justice reform and the other work he’s done that he’s willing to be bipartisan,” said Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and an informal adviser to Trump. “He’s willing to listen carefully. And I think he has a very good sense that if you don’t put together an overwhelming majority of Republicans nothing will happen... If it’s possible, they’ll try to move forward.”

What is clear from conversations with participants and both current and former Trump officials is that Kushner has helped kicked off a fresh discussion on immigration that reflects a new paradigm in the White House. It’s a shift away from priorities of 2017 that sought to prevent the influx of foreign workers who could displace American workers in favor of a new approach preferred by more traditional Republicans, particularly those close to the corporate sector who are desperate to attract more foreign workers to fill U.S. factories and tech hubs.

Did you read the article? They actually do quote some. They also refer to agendas and other documents.

Is it too much to ask that we don’t dismiss anything we don’t like as fake news? I am not going to ignore the story because there are some un-named sources. As I said, this is not the first article indicating a move in a different direction on immigration away from JOBS FOR AMERICANS FIRST.

And OK we get that:
1. You don’t admire journalists. But did you ever think that perhaps the sources insisted they not be quoted. It happens—I have been interviewed by press and requested no names.
2. You are loyal to Trump. And likely any article or person w/an issue is problematic.

But I am loyal to Trump too, and on this issue, like Obamacare reform, and past budget/CR deals, I and some of us dared disagree with Trump’s position (much of which was framed by elite republicans and self-promoters LIKE Jared).

...IMHO Trump should not be entrusting this issue to his not particularly conservative son-in-law who likely would have never been a Trump voter had he not married Ivanka.

Not happy with this direction immigration is taking, and I am not afraid to contact WH and ask about it and comment on it. Is that too much to ask?

Signed,
Mr. or Ms. Freedom

Given that Trump is now pushing for more immigration (as in his SOTU), we cannot ever reverse course, unless a catastrophe worse than 9-11 happens.

Seriously, don't you get it? YOU could have written this article out of whole cloth. There are a few "spokespeople" -- and Newt, of course, sprinkled in to make it look like a real, live, actual news article, but this is the rest of it, no need to directly quote an ACTUAL human:

What is clear from conversations with participants and both current and former Trump officials

It’s a different White House than it was a year ago, said a senior administration official

“What we want to do is kind of figure out what are the things that everyone agrees on,” the official said

One participant described Kushner as listening a lot and encouraging others to speak

“He’s a smart guy,” one of the participants said.

The senior administration official said

“The president said many times he wants to raise immigration,” the official said.

“That is how you have to understand it,” said a former Trump official who remains in contact with White House officials

“I wouldn’t want people to have their hopes raised too much,” the senior administration official said.

Many thought he was ad-libbing

See my #43. This is a crock.

This is how “journalism” works these days.

“Somebody” said ...

Do you want your local newspaper reporting what “Somebody” said about you?

This is the kind of crap Freepers FIGHT against.

Yeesh.

So you are totally dismissing this...OK.

However, in a month or two when Jared’s initiatives are going full bore, I will be sure to send a ping

I don’t give a crap about Jared.

I give a crap about responsible journalism, and an article full of “quotes” by completely unsubstantiated people who apparently didn’t want to back their opinions with their actual NAMES is not it.

As I stated, I actually did have to talk to a reporter off the record—my facts were spot-on and were reported as such...It happens.

Frankly if some of Hillary’s or Obama’s aides had been willing to talk off the record, I suspect Freepers would not have had nearly the issues you do...

Do you have some issue with H-1B Visa immigration? You seem incredibly determined to dismiss this.

One more thing, if this truly is Fake news, then I am sure we will see a tweet or Rush/Hannity/Carlson et. al demanding correction/retractions in the next few days right?

Exactly!

It’s a must if we wish to keep our nation.

I know you’re serious, and so am I on that point.

three dozen interest groups important to Trump to see if there is a position that Republicans can rally around before the 2020 elections.

and I bet they come up with open borders and cheap labor.

but to the public it will be pushed off as job security.....

Well, I’m going to check this out of the next few weeks.

We’ll see if we’ve been told wrong here.

I’m not convinced we have been, so I’m not a happy camper.

We DO NOT need anymore foreign nationals right now.

We need a 50 year moratorium on immigration.

Maybe you should give a crap about Jared.

Again, why are you so vehemently opposed to this...Do you normally come out this strong against articles and any Freepers who wish to opine? Or do you have some issue with H-1B Visa immigration?

I agree, but I’m not convinced this is that far off base.

We’ll see. It may be. It may also be a ploy to separate supporters from Trump too.

We’ll see how it shakes out.

I do not agree with the outline presented here.

Well, I’m not convinced of it, that we need it.

I would urge otherwise. It’s nonsense.

A moratorium is needed on legal immigration. There shouldn't be any visas granted to foreign students or HB1. We've got to get people to assimilate, or else we're screwed.

agree but you will never see this come out of Kushner's lil think tank of CEOs.

And, the elephant in the room is education. In the hands of leftists, they have deliberately dumbed down the education of Americans to such a low level that only the children of the wealthy and exceptional can perform the high paying jobs.

If this bold new immigration plan does not rein in the academic insanity that has turned a plurality of American youth into crybaby incompetents, then it is all for naught and we will lose our country to third world socialists, which is their game plan.

I’m in the IT industry, and the H1B visa folks are no smarter than average. But they have better educations because they study the stem field vigorously, while American students opt for soft social areas that have zero value in the marketplace.

Academia has been on a full-out war against young American men so they would back down from the competition.

Please write to your congressmen and women and to the President and demand they restore classical education and discipline. Euro-Americans have the highest IQ’s outside of the far east, far outstripping the middle east and the rest of the world, including Europe, because their best and brightest immigrated here in centuries past. But they have largely been seduced into academic mediocrity to avoid being called racist or sexist. “How dare you excel!” has been the war-cry against young American men and women, real Americans of all races.

I’m dead set against foreign nationals coming here, period.

We’re already swamped.

As you state, the economy is changing too, and I’m not a happy camper with some of the things coming down the pike.

This push to automated vehicles on the roads is a recipe for disaster IMO.
