Jared Kushner privately working on reshaping legal immigration

As debate in public rages about illegal immigration and a border wall, Jared Kushner has been holding private meetings in the West Wing on ways to overhaul the legal immigration system, according to six people familiar with the conversations and documents obtained by McClatchy.

President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law is operating on at least two tracks -- the first is working with a small group studying specific ways to redistribute employment visas and the second is helping lead a series of “listening sessions” with about three dozen interest groups important to Trump to see if there is a position that Republicans can rally around before the 2020 elections.

“Jared has proven with the work he did on criminal justice reform and the other work he’s done that he’s willing to be bipartisan,” said Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and an informal adviser to Trump. “He’s willing to listen carefully. And I think he has a very good sense that if you don’t put together an overwhelming majority of Republicans nothing will happen... If it’s possible, they’ll try to move forward.”

What is clear from conversations with participants and both current and former Trump officials is that Kushner has helped kicked off a fresh discussion on immigration that reflects a new paradigm in the White House. It’s a shift away from priorities of 2017 that sought to prevent the influx of foreign workers who could displace American workers in favor of a new approach preferred by more traditional Republicans, particularly those close to the corporate sector who are desperate to attract more foreign workers to fill U.S. factories and tech hubs.

I see this as terribly problematic.

We need jobs for U. S. Citizens, not foreign nationals.

Corporations can go straight to hell on this one.

Jared too...

Ivanka and Kushner are PARASITES on POTUS:

NO ONE elected them.

Yes, Ivanka is pretty —I get it.

SO WHAT..?

I will say, I need to make sure what is actually in this before going quite that negative.

This is he Leftist media.

I have to be careful what I take for granted when they present the story.

The headline says it all. Congress is so vapid and unimaginative that the likes of Jared Kushner is taken seriously as someone who sets immigration policy.

Legal immigration under existing circumstances is actually worse than illegal immigration itself.

I PINGed FReeper kabar because he's one of the most articulate spokesperson on this topic.

That might sound paradoxical, but it makes perfect sense. We can always secure the border and identify the illegals that are coming here. Legal immigrants, however, are on the fast-track to citizenship and they still aren't interested in assimilation or learning what it means to be an American like the immigrants of yesteryear did in the late 1800s.

A moratorium is needed on legal immigration. There shouldn't be any visas granted to foreign students or HB1. We've got to get people to assimilate, or else we're screwed.

What if Trump asked him to look into it?

Um, it’s not Congress that gave Jared whatever authority he has. It’s his father in law. I didn’t vote for Trump to get Jared. I don’t see Trump getting re-elected if he lets Jared push a plan for inviting many more immigrant workers in. Democrat Trump voters Midwest might go back to voting Democrat, if Trump becomes just another Jeb

I just knew he had his hand in all of this and it’s not what we voted for!
I just cannot understand why POTUS has him doing such important things when we did not elect Javanka to do these things!!

Um, yeah. I can write a story that claimed six unnamed people claimed anything.

“Journalism” has become COMPLETE crap.

Here’s an idea for legal immigration, Jared.

Put a forty year moratorium on ALL immigration until we can properly assimilate the tens of millions of foreigners who are already here.

I mean it. Shut it all down until there’s no one left in America but Americans.

More leftist BS aimed at peeling away more Trump supporters. They assume that Trump supporters want to end LEGAL immigration. Wrong. We need skilled people. Our crop of Masters of Lesbian History scholars can't help American industry be great again.

We need some sort of immigration reform... after decades of the system being screwed up. Otherwise, we get nowhere.

The story is consistent with Trumps own words in State of Union, when said we need to bring in lots more foreign workers. He repeated this the next day, and agreed it was a shift from his campaign message. He said the shift is necessary because so many jobs are being created

Amen there. Big tech is frantically trying to perfect self-driving vehicles and the transportation industry is salivating. Getting rid of hundreds of thousand well paid long haul truckers and their limited schedules is a gold mine. Add in busses and taxis, and this is a big problem for employable non-college educated, mostly male Americans. We simply will soon not be able to accept ANY imported workers until we rebalance employment with the new economy.

2 Questions?

1. Are you saying this article is implausible?

I won’t discount it because sourced articles have come out with some similar points.

2. What would you suggest we do...simply wait for the directive to be published to react... at which point it is likely too late for input?

Our crop of Masters of Lesbian History scholars can’t help American industry be great again.

That’s a slander against the many American kids who study STEM in college - then have to compete for jobs with h1b visa Indians. Michelle Malkin has documented that the problem isn’t lack of qualified American workers - it’s the greed of corporate bosses who want foreign workers so they can pay them less and work them harder. Trump seems to be casting his lot with these vile ceos , and it’s not going to help his re-election chances

So, “McClatchy News Service” didn’t need six unnamed people telling them that, then.

American “Journalism” is hopeless.
