Marco Rubio at Venezuela border warns Maduro's troops against "crime" of blocking aid

Cucuta, Colombia -- U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio visited a border staging point for U.S. aid to Venezuela on Sunday and warned soldiers loyal to socialist President Nicolas Maduro that it will be a "crime against humanity" if they block entry of the goods that are being channeled through Maduro's rivals.

An enthusiastic throng of Venezuelan migrants, some chanting "Rubio! Liberty," met the Florida Republican as he visited Cucuta and held a news conference in sight of a border bridge that has been flooded in recent months by people fleeing the hardships of Venezuela's hyperinflation and severe shortages of food and medicine.

The U.S. has used military and civilian aircraft to fly in food and personal care aid in an effort meant to undermine Maduro and dramatize his government's inability to overcome shortages of food and medicine. The aid is supposed to be moved into Venezuela on Feb. 23 by supporters of congressional leader Juan Guaido, who is recognized by the U.S. and dozens of other countries as Venezuela's legitimate president.

I really don’t care what happens to them. They voted for it.

I totally agree. My problem is with us giving them or attempting to give them food with our hard-earned bucks.

Wow, I’m shocked at the comments here. Denying food aid to starving people is genuinely a crime against humanity. Plus this policy advances our foreign policy goals. The collapse of Socialism in Venezuela may well lead to it’s collapse in Cuba as the thousands of Cuban “advisers” in that country return home to tell their story to their compatriots.

I’m no fan of Rubio, but he tends to be more on our side than against us.

While I’d prefer someone more conservative to step up and replace him, there are a lot who need replacing more than him.

If this were CNN, he’d be a villain for undermining Maduro, the great social justice monkey-boy.

“I’m no fan of Rubio, but he tends to be more on our side than against us.”

Marco is pro open borders, member of the Gang of Eight, never-Trumper, entrenched member of the swamp establishment and known liar. Spoke loudly and clearly against Trump’s declaration of emergency. Really not on our side. Right?

I am a Floridian. All to often, he is taking up where the defeated dem Nelson left off.

He is grandstanding showboat.

The Venezuelans got everything they voted for.

How is it a "crime against humanity" for American taxpayers to not want to fund socialist food handouts to #ssh#l#s complaining about going hungry in the socialist system they voted for? Here's an idea - don't vote for socialism and expect the yanquis you hate so damn much to come to your rescue when the predictable results come to fruition.

I retract my tepid support. He needs to be primaried out next time around.

If our legislators will not do the most basic function of their job by protecting citizens from foreign invasion and domestic enemies, they’re useless and need to be gone.

The Venezuelans got everything they voted for.

Incorrect.

The Venezuelans in April 2013, in the last presidential election, actually VOTED MADURO OUT OF OFFICE.

However, his supposedly neutral electoral commission, the Consejo Nacional Electora (CNE), supported by the ruling socialist PSUV, shut down election returns on election night, and rigged the final results to show a WIN for MADURO and a loss for democratic opposition leader CAPRILES RADONSKI. The People, the majority in Venezuela outside of the rabid red mobs, the mainstream voted no such way for Maduro and the current slavery they have to endure.

Go check your facts.

supported by the ruling socialist PSUV

I wonder who voted for the ruling PSUV? I wondered who voted for Chavez?

Socialism was great so long as the "right people" were in charge, or so they thought. The socialists were voted into office, and never had any intention of giving up power.

It's not who votes that counts - it's who counts the votes......and who counts the votes is who the Venezuelans voted for - the PSUV, which was formed from a number of socialist parties that merged together.

Once the voters swept in the Chavismos - the results were predictable.

Regardless of who is right or wrong - it still doesn't mean the U.S. taxpayer needs to shell out to fix their mess.
