Patrick Caddell, the political pollster who helped send an obscure peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter to the White House, later became disillusioned with fellow Democrats and finally veered to advise supporters of Donald J. Trump, died on Saturday in Charleston, S.C. He was 68.
His death, from complications of a stroke, was confirmed by a colleague, Prof. Kendra Stewart of the College of Charleston.
While Mr. Caddell was considered instrumental in Mr. Carters victory, he also shared the blame for limiting him to a single term. He helped persuade the president to deliver a speech that was intended to inspirit the nation during an energy crisis and economic slump, but instead tarred Mr. Carter as a weakling who was unable to lift the country out of its malaise.
Instead, in 1980 voters chose Ronald Reagan, a Republican who promised a rosier vision that he would describe during his successful re-election campaign as morning again in America.

RIP, Mr. Caddell.
I vividly remember Pat saying with great indignation that “the media is the enemy of the American people” during the 2012 presidential campaign. He was spot on.
RIP
Per Wikipedia he was Dem candidates at least through Jerry Brown in 1992. But from the same source here’s a tidbit on him from 1987 that could hardly be more relevant to the Trump campaign:
According to a 1987 profile in the Washington Monthly:
“Caddell believes the key to winning contemporary elections is appealing to ‘alienated’ votersthat ever-growing group of mostly younger voters who are not easily identified as liberal or conservative and don’t trust government, politicians, or the parties. You can’t lure these voters with programs and stands on specific issues, so the theory goes. Rather, you must remain as uncommitted as they are. You lure them by attacking that which caused their alienation: the Establishment. Even if he were inclined to help his candidate address the nation’s substantive problems and articulate a coherent package of solutions, he’d have trouble.”[5]
Looks like he was being interviewed on the radio at least into mid-2018?

A d’rat who was straight forth and (Surprise!)trusted...period
RIP, Sir. You were one honorable man in a mob of vigilantes.
If there were only other choices which you might have made.
Your party did not deserve you.
So sad to hear; I always enjoyed hearing him talk, he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy.
His is a voice that will be missed.

He knew what the Dems had become!
Very sad news.
Insprit? The New York Slimes must be losing a ton of money. Can't even afford a decent spell checker!
RIP Pat Caddell, you were an American Patriot.
One of the last honest Democrats.
Ugh. One of the last sane pollsters. He was always a breath of fresh air to listen to. RIP.
Very sad. He was a good guy.
Darn. He was on Hannity often. Always enjoyed Pat and Doug Schoen.
Way too early, and sad to lose an ally.
That is a shame. I always liked to hear him when he was on Fox.
True, he did seem like one of the few rational and level headed Dems left.
Sad to hear. He was the rarame dem with a measure of common sense.
