Internal Revenue Service employee Mary Maldonado, of Dracut, Mass., center, displays a placard during a rally by federal employees and supporters, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, in front of the Statehouse, in Boston, held to call for an end of the partial shutdown of the federal government.
The pay hike would be less than the 2.6 percent increase the military received in legislation that Congress passed last year.
President Donald Trump has proposed a pay freeze for federal employees. But lawmakers from the Washington area, who represent tens of thousands of federal workers, have been pushing to get them a pay increase.
The final language of the legislation to avoid the shutdown is still being worked out.
For the pay raise to go into effect, the bill would have to be passed by the House and Senate, then receive the presidents signature.
Lawmakers are also trying to include language in the legislation that would provide back pay to federally contracted workers, related to the 35-day shutdown. The legislation is supported by lawmakers from Virginia, Maryland and D.C.
yeah yeah
whatever you say
This offer is a bunch of crap! Why should these Federal leeches get a damned raise!? The President should stiff-arm the deal.
Hey disgruntled federal workers: thanks to President Trump unemployment is at record low levels. Tired of uncertainty? Get a job in the real world, they are plentiful now. Otherwise STFU and look forward to your gigantic budget reaking pension that nobody outside government gets anymore.
Why pay the mostly parasite class (fed “workers”) any more? Their pay/benefits/retirement package is obscene. What a pathetic joke.
The perosn holding the “we want to work” sign is an obvious liar. What she likely means is we wan to get paid for siting around, sneering at Citizens who have the nerve to bother us and watch porn. pathetic.
Yebbie would be squeezing his “pocket turtle”. What an incredible loser.
DCians do not need more of USAians money. DC has become the problem.
I got a $100 raise in my pay and told I was doing a good job.
Never had a skimpy raise like that or some change $50 Christmas bonus either.
These guys deserve a 1.9% increase?
KcuF man...that could be thousands more per year for many of these 6 figure loafs...
Its a sop....
Trump is not going to sign this due to the immigration poison pills in it.
So Dems get to tell .gov workers that Trump took away thier pay raise.
I totally get that for sure. I was military for 24 years and then did about 3 years of federal government work before I said heck with this. The benefits are good although I didn’t use their medical but did use the dental which was ok at best. The days off were fine, but I never got to the 6-hours of leave a payday or whatever it was. The pension sucks! I was thinking of working 20 years from age 42-62 but when I did the figures, it was 20 percent of the final 3 years working and thought not worth it...possibly not even a 1,000 a month so I left and never looked back. The military retirement is much better. Now as far as Congress goes, theirs is much better as it is 2 percent a year, so had I worked for some Congressmen, I would have gotten 40 percent of final 3 years which would have been worth it most likely. Anyway, they are for the most part over paid....there were a ton of GS-11’s in my building.....too many quite frankly. I am still stunned that the State Department has something like 38 thousand working and the Department of Defense has 115,000.....RIDICULOUS!!!!!!
Sheesh. I thought the economy was good. Obviously those companies are not taking advantage of Trump’s Tax program. Are they another company that bought back stocks or something. I wish Trump would have given requirements for the tax bonus they got. These companies are making out like bandits but the workers are not. Not good.
~ 75% of the time, that's an oxymoron
I work for the VA, there was no COLA raise at the end of 2018.
Perfect time to get another job. Economy is on fire. You should not sit in a job that is not compensating you the money you feel you earn. Do it before Trump leaves office at least. Right now anybody unsatisfied with their job for any reason should immediately leave. Some companies are giving huge signing bonus’ that you should take advantage of.
Get out of that job immediately. It is stupid to stay in a job that doesn’t value you. The economy is hot. People are begging to hire right now. Who knows how long that will last.
What’s the bill number (HR-xxxx) of this abomination?
Happened that may actually happened today
I’ve been at this job for 19 months and every single month I’m somewhere between 200 and 1000 per cent of quota like this month I will be 700% of the quota
But there is a real lack of trust and I don’t understand it I’m not somebody that you have to ask to go do their damn job
So, I’m going to have a discussion about the stress thing but in the hell out of me
And inform them that I would make three to five times as much anywhere else if you can’t overcome this
Am I drive would be 10 minutes away from my door instead of an hour and a half away
Thing is kind of like this job is fun
If I’m not going to stay in a relationship where I’m not trusted
Thanks for the concern. I work for a global company, mainly based in the US. You’ve heard of them.
We outsource, downsize and every other pleasant metaphor for “fire” you can think of. Apparently, our leaders haven’t gotten the memo.
