Virginia Lt. Gov. accusers say they will testify if state has impeachment proceedings
NBC News ^ | February 9, 2019 | Phil McCausland and Kalhan Rosenblatt

The two women who have accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault said late Saturday that they are willing to testify if the state General Assembly launches impeachment proceedings against him.

Nancy Erika Smith, an attorney for Meredith Watson, called for "real due process, not hidden from the public," according to a statement.

Watson claims she was raped by Fairfax while they were students at Duke University in 2000, and Virginia Tyson has accused Fairfax of forcing her to perform oral sex in 2004 while they were both at the Democratic Convention in Boston.

Fairfax denies the accusations and says he will remain in office, and he has called for an FBI investigation into the claims.

Smith said Fairfax's request for an investigation is insufficient because the FBI does not normally have jurisdiction over these types of allegations.

"We will provide at least two witnesses whom Ms. Watson told of the assault the day after Fairfax raped her," Smith said in the statement. "We will also produce documentary evidence of Ms. Watson revealing to others the fact that Fairfax raped her."

Tyson's attorneys, Debra S. Katz and Lisa J. Banks, said their client would also testify against Fairfax in any impeachment proceedings.

Too late to stop impeachment. I heard the impeachment process would start on Monday if he didn’t resign by then.

On Monday, I will be introducing articles of impeachment for Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax if he has not resigned before then.— Patrick Hope (@HopeforVirginia) February 8, 2019

The alleged crimes committed by LG Fairfax took place in Massachusetts and North Carolina. The impeachment process is the only way for Virginia to have the investigation that LG Fairfax has demanded.— Patrick Hope (@HopeforVirginia) February 9, 2019

Tyson left a detailed electronic/paper trail. Such evidence is considered "corroboration" by L/E.

And look at WHO she told.

<><> In a Dec 2017 text message exchange between Cong Scott and Tyson, she informed
the Congressman of a “MeToo allegation” against Democrat Fairfax (then-Va's Lt Gov-Elect).

<><>A senior staffer for Sen Mark Warner (Dem-VA) said Tyson made the Senator
aware of her horrifying sexual assault allegations against Justin Fairfax 10 months ago.

Democrats responded as one would expect.....disgracefully. Both Cong Scott and Senator Warner ignored the allegations.

We still do not know who else Tyson told.

Yet oddly, neither one availed themselves of the opportunity to actually go on the the official record with a police report.

Statute of limitations for rape in Massachusetts (where one happened in July 2004) is 15 years.

They won’t allow an open hearing: people in VA are too convinced of their rightness to hear any dissent anyway.

VA voters are the epitome of lock-step liberal voting. I’m afraid it’s a permanent condition unaffected by the turn of events.

Where is the dog faced senator from HAWAII? Remember she told all men to shut up and sit down and all women must be believed. Why are we not tracking her down in the street and asking her these questions?????

Only if there are impeachment hearings????
Seems like if they have something, they could use it to trigger impeachment hearings...

According to the US Census, as of July 1 2018, an estimated 19.8% of the population of Virginia was Black or African American.

WaPo polled Virginians about Northam stepping down, and Northam has more support from African Americans than from whites and Democrats overall. Hard to believe that they didn't poll about Fairfax, and aren't terrified about the results of the poll.

Republicans should insist that 100% of Democrats are on board before lending them 1 vote towards impeaching Fairfax.

Not sure (thinking).... Didn’t the accusers skip a step? ....Mmmm...like maybe talking with investigators in appropriate jurisdiction?

Fairfax & I are political opposites, but he does not deserve to lose his reputation/livelihood because of an accusation alone.

Impeachment based on accusations without facts will set a dangerous precedent.

I would warn Virginia to tread slowly

Black Democrats simply get hung out to dry. They can never get away with a fraction of the crap white Democrats can.

You must be kidding!

I doubt white Democrats could get away with what Maxine Waters says and does!

Consider Sheila Jackson Lee!
