The two women who have accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault said late Saturday that they are willing to testify if the state General Assembly launches impeachment proceedings against him.
Nancy Erika Smith, an attorney for Meredith Watson, called for "real due process, not hidden from the public," according to a statement.
Watson claims she was raped by Fairfax while they were students at Duke University in 2000, and Virginia Tyson has accused Fairfax of forcing her to perform oral sex in 2004 while they were both at the Democratic Convention in Boston.
Fairfax denies the accusations and says he will remain in office, and he has called for an FBI investigation into the claims.
Smith said Fairfax's request for an investigation is insufficient because the FBI does not normally have jurisdiction over these types of allegations.
"We will provide at least two witnesses whom Ms. Watson told of the assault the day after Fairfax raped her," Smith said in the statement. "We will also produce documentary evidence of Ms. Watson revealing to others the fact that Fairfax raped her."
Tyson's attorneys, Debra S. Katz and Lisa J. Banks, said their client would also testify against Fairfax in any impeachment proceedings.

Yep. Somebody is about to resign to “protect his family from these false allegations”
Impeachment hearings ? NO !!!
File the charges with the appropriate authorities or shut up.
Could have been worse. At least she wasn’t fondled over her clothing by a drunken teenager at a party.
I don’t like his face. It irks me.
What is the statute of limitations?
I'd be interested in seeing polling of how various demographic groups of Virginia voters see this.
If the rapist was a Republican they'd be polling data all over the place...
It looks real bad when a black man has to resign and a white guy can stay after wearing a KKK hood or black face. They better brace for riots. Sweet buttery popcorn time.
On general principal, I loathe elected democrats, in fact, I can’t think of a Democrat in office that I have admired for a very very long time. Actually, admired is a strong word. Maybe, a democrat who does not make me extremely furious over the things he says or the bills he proposes; just mildly annoyed. However, I am absolutely opposed to this idea of claiming a sexual assault years after the fact. If an individual does not make a formal complaint within a reasonable time frame then he/she loses the right to do so. It is too difficult years later for the defendant to defend him/herself, and it boils down to he said/she said. It was terrible for Kavanaugh to have to deal with such allegations and it is terrible for this guy to try to do so. I don’t like democrats, but if we say we don’t like women making allegations like this years and years later, we need to be consistent about it, not just when it is “our” guy.
I believe her already, just give him the chair!
Fairfax thinks the FBI will do for him what they did for Obummer.
And he just might be right. I have NO illusions about the laughable FBI.
Lighten up Francis.
I think 15 years was mentioned.
Black Democrats simply get hung out to dry. They can never get away with a fraction of the crap white Democrats can.
Just more proof that black Democrats are nothing more than political eye candy and will get smacked down if they try and advance.
They must be believed!
Over or under for him to call this a high tech lynching?
I guess it’s pretty obvious. These Rats sure are getting themselves caught in politically correct bear traps. You would hope that they would finally suffer the consequences of their constantly contradictory beliefs but the media lets them slither away. Hopefully some day they’ll get their just desserts.
I read it runs out sometime this summer.
I agree with you. Just have the ladies do statements with the police. Let the county prosecutor do his job. If convicted, let the judge hand out the sentence. We don’t need to turn this into some monkey-court circus with impeachment chatter.
The problem I see is that a number of these Virginia legislature guys have the same past history, and there’s going to be forty-odd women coming out this summer to report on them. So will there be a dozen state legislature folks facing impeachment as well?
