Earlier this month, an experiment on Chinas Change 4 lander got cotton plants to sprout on the moon for the first time. Well, theyre already dead.

“Change 4 lander got cotton plants to sprout on the moon for the first time. Well, theyre already dead.”
This will greatly upset the 50 IQ neo-cons who believe in the fantasy of the ChiComm superman.
What about all the Chinese viruses and bacteria that traveled on the Cotton Plants? Are they all dead as well?
Even if the heat was regulated, 2 weeks of light followed by 2 weeks of darkness would cause problems as well.
Something was going right for them to sprout.
Not sure if Moon soil could be fertile or not.
You’d have to have an artificial oxygen supply and an air right green house. Could work out as other foods were grown there for nutrition.
Hydroponics has been studied quite a bit. Soil might not even be necessary these days.
Some interesting food for thought anyway.
There is supposed to be a large city on the dark side of our moon composed of benevolent aliens and members of the U.S. Space Corps. So I’ve heard.
Controlled humidity, air, water, and nutrients, but no temperature control or radiation shielding.
Silkworms?
what no blanket
I think all they cared about was to see if they would sprout.
I’m going to guess they were smart enough to realize the sprouts would die with no light.
They needed Brawndo. It’s got Electrolytes, it’s what plants crave.

It seems as if it’s good enough for sprouts. But it is the moon after all.

Yup. If nothing else, I’ll start selling some lunar north 40 and see how many city slickers buy it.
:D
utter horse manure
I suspect those sprouts were in Earth soil or some hydroponic device. Can’t say for sure. If it was in Moon soil, impressive. I doubt that because there had to be an oxygen supply, and moving to Moon soil in would probably be problematic. Could have happened...

I dunno seems as if the long, hand -62F freeze was the primary thing that killed em - from the article:
“Since the moon takes about 27 Earth days to rotate, day and night each last about two weeks. The experiment ran on solar power and didnt carry a battery because it would have been too heavy. So, once night fell, the power went out.”
and
“With controlled humidity, air, water, and nutrients, this container was specifically designed to keep these organisms alive.”

Yup, they were.
Should have tried for a peanut, or bean sprout,
You beat me to it... well done
Here’s a longer article, linked to from this one -

Very good question.
The viruses would require a host, so I'd think almost certainly not.
Bacteria, OTH, are funny critters. In possible hibernation, I wouldn't put anything past them.
Then again, the viruses might latch on to the bacteria.
