McCaskill on Ocasio-Cortez: ‘I’m a little confused why she’s the thing’

Outgoing Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) says that she is “a little confused” by the rapid rise of incoming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)

In an exit interview with CNN, McCaskill said she wishes Ocasio-Cortez well, but advised the rising Democratic star to walk the walk.

"I'm a little confused why she's the thing,” McCaskill told CNN. “But it's a good example of what I'm talking about, a bright shiny new object, came out of nowhere and surprised people when she beat a very experienced congressman."

McCaskill is jealous of Ocasio-Cortez.

“Outraged” should read “outspent.” Where the heck did outraged come from?

No, Claire, she didn’t beat an experienced Congressman. She beat a lazy, arrogant, brain-dead, over confident New York politician that thought he was entitled to hold his office for life. He merely had one year of experience twenty times. He was totally ignorant of the pulse of his district. Apparently he was so out of touch that not one of his constituents cared enough to tell him that a socialist was knocking on doors and gaining support.

I love her. She is a gift that will keep on giving. Boston University has to be very proud of its graduate upon which they conferred a degree. Every time she opens her mouth, she proves she doesn’t know anything about anything. It appears that if you pay your tuition, BU will award you a degree.

Probably the most intelligent thing McCaskill has ever said.

She's a "thing" because she's staggeringly uninformed, doesn't know what she doesn't know, compounds this with vast though unearned self-confidence, and thus appeals to the fantasies of leftist voters who want desperately to believe that hard questions have simple answers if only the right people were in charge.

It's an ancient formula. Populist demagogues have been using it from time immemorial. It often works. It worked in the Republican primaries in 2016. But then comes victory and the discovery that reality is harder than the simple solution snake oil peddled by populists. AOC and DJT are actually a well-matched pair.

***..a bright shiny new object, came out of nowhere ***

Like dangling cheap beads in front of the Democrat natives. All glitter, makes them “Ohh” and Ahh”.

Why is Beto the thing? Or Gillum?

Aside from having funny names, they're younger than the usual politician, and not quite so stodgy and humdrum.

Add to that the fact that Ocasio surprised the media by winning a race that nobody thought she's win and nobody was paying attention to.

Under other circumstances, the media might have tried to bury the story, but she was young enough and left enough that they couldn't resist giving her ink and airtime.

Why is she “the thing”?

All that heavy policy she does, that’s why! She’s written volumes! That, and her eyes go in circles when she talks!

Oh, I'm pretty sure Alexandria is on board with taking from everyone and passing it out to whomever she sees fit. She's a 'thing' alright.

It is well known that she took other people's tips. To her taking and spending other people's money is not a problem. So she probably took one of those career placement tests they have online where they ask about your skills and abilities. After an intense question and answer session of about 3 minutes and based on her personality profile a job as a congressperson would fit right in. She loves to spend other people's money. She's a parrot and repeats everything her master tells her. So she feels that it is her divine right to be a congressperson.

Talk like that enough and it will boomerang right back at you.

Except for the unfortunate problem that too many Progressive leaders are openly saying such unpleasant things.

I don't see any "boomerang" prospects from paying attention to opponents, listening to what they say, and accurately reporting it.

And who's "they" anyway?

The rather large collection of Leftists who control the Democrat party today. And their backers. That "loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires" mentioned in the popular song.

The election of Ocasio-Cortez rather clearly demonstrates the future of the Democrat party. They don't need or want those old White people hanging around in leadership positions anymore.

Politics is about conflict. That's unavoidable. If you keep thinking it means one group living and the other dying, you aren't making the best use of your mind and such political skills as you may have.

If you go on thinking that "opponents" are one homogeneous group who want to kill you, rather than a coalition of groups with different interests and purposes, it won't end well.

If you keep saying, "they want us all to die," "They want to kill us," eventually people stop listening and ignore you. Chicken Little: "The sky is falling."

Your point is well taken. People do not want to hear such unpleasant things.

Don't worry. Be happy.

Claire McCaskill will never be charged with being the brightest bulb on the porch. But, she was and remains cunning and evil. She will continue to pursue her main goal, enriching herself at others expense. She and her husband still own those nursing home that drain wealth from mistreated patients and she will sell her influence wherever she can find a sucker. If the Ocasio-Cortez wing gets real power, Claire will be on board.

Nice knockers, doe eyes, and brainless. The perfect vehicle to draw ratings in the state scripted media propaganda machine. The Hispanic name is a bonus.
