A new CNN poll shows a majority of Americans are opposed to impeaching Donald Trump. In September, a plurality of 47 percent supported impeaching the president. Today, 50 percent say Trump shouldn't be removed from office.
Americans break against that idea, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Half, 50%, say they don't feel that Trump ought to be impeached and removed from office, while 43% say he should be. Support for impeachment has dipped some since September, when 47% favored it, and is about the same as in a June poll (42% favored it then). Support for impeachment of Trump remains higher than it was for each of the last three presidents at any time it was asked. It's on par with President Richard Nixon, who 43% of Americans said should be impeached and removed from office in a March 1974 Harris poll.
The shift on impeachment comes mostly from political independents. In September, they were evenly split on the question, with 48% behind impeachment and 47% opposed. Now, 36% favor impeachment and 55% are opposed.
There's also been a meaningful shift on the question among younger adults (53% of those under age 45 backed impeachment in September, now that's down to 45%) and racial and ethnic minorities (66% favored it in September, 50% do now).
Is it just a coincidence that as the Russian collusion hysteria has disappeared down the rabbit hole to be replaced by Michael Cohen hysteria support for impeaching Trump has faded?
Just 12 percent of Democrats do not support impeaching the president. This doesn't prove polarization as much as it shows how deluded Democrats are as a party and why they are going to lose the presidency again in 2020.
This tweet is instructive:
The Democrats haven't had a serious agenda since 2008. In 2012, it was "re-elect the first black president." In 2016, it was "elect the first female president." What can they possibly offer the voters in 2020? "Medicare for all"? Faster, please. Free college tuition? Oh, yeah.
And who will be their candidate? One of the septuagenarians? Or one of the empty-headed radicals like Ocasio-Cortez or Beto?
Trying to impeach Trump will seal their fate -- much like it hurt Republicans in 1998. Ordinary Americans, unlike partisans, are very uneasy about overturning the results of an election without a slam-dunk case against the president.
Voters just aren't as stupid as Democrats think they are.
Wonder how it will play out after Mueller is done with his witch hunt?
I certainly hope that our team complains about the lack of Russian Collusion all the way to the next election.
I really like to believe this, but the results of the 2018 midterms tell me otherwise... :(

You still think all that flipping of seats were due to Voters?
Yikes.
Answer begins with a F and ends in a D. It is the ONLY way the Rats win now a days.
I think the Caravan Invaders have made RINOs, even a few Democrats grateful for this president. Most such NeverTrumper&Dems would never admit it to ‘the enemy’ (us conservatives). When the horde reached Tijuana, stormed the gates and got themselves teargassed, it became quite a real situation for many in this country. It was no longer justa case of ‘Trump makin’ stuff up’.
What are they going to impeach President Trump for, exactly?
On what grounds do 43% of Americans think President Trump should be impeached? Are there really that many ignorant Americans? (to ask the Q is to answer it)
The Democrats haven’t had a serious agenda since the birth of the party.
Fabian socialists
The left side of the bell curve needs to be un-brain washed and have their vision corrected. It appears that the Media must have their robots completely programmed to hate Trump.
I'm sitting here grinning over the wailing/gnashing of teeth that putting out this story had to cause at CNN .. LOLOL !
That’s the Left, they are a minority.
Theres never been legal grounds for impeachment and now that the Democrats have the house, they need an excuse to back off.
That aside, unless there is an "affirmative action" to demand an ideological balance to the major institutions of propaganda/power(media, finance, political, educational)...things do not bode well(politically, ideologically)going forward.
For daring to WIN.
So 43% of Americans are ignorant tools. My guess is that the 43% who never vote.
43 ... same pct that put Clinton in office ... with his partner Perot ...
Its a subset of the 47% Romney spoke of!
I really like to believe this, but the results of the 2018 midterms tell me otherwise... :(

Im still not sold on the results of the midterms and how much ballot harvesting » and provisional ballots had to do with it. Id like to see a graph showing total vote counts for the last ten midterms and see if the number of votes this year was in line with past elections or way off the charts.
voters are very good at suddenly not wanting what they just brought about. they hated ACA when they had it, but then they loved it when republicans were trying to undo it.
they just elected a democrat house, and they’ll proceed to hate everything it tries to do.

Just in case, be ready for some real resistance (as opposed to the astroturf kind we've been seeing since "Occupy").
Voters just aren't as stupid as Democrats think they are.
Some are, obviously, or there'd not be a Demwit majority entering the House.
