The Environmental Protection Agency moved Tuesday to scale back the Obama-era Waters of the United States rule, a policy embraced by environmentalists but denounced by critics as a power grab that placed even potholes and puddles under federal control.
In the Trump administrations latest strike on federal regulations, the EPA proposed redefining waters of the United States in a way that would draw a clear line between navigable waterways under federal versus state control.
Our proposal would replace the Obama EPAs 2015 definition with one that respects the limits of the Clean Water Act and provides states and landowners the certainty they need to manage their natural resources and grow local economies, said EPA acting administrator Andrew Wheeler. For the first time, we are clearly defining the difference between federally protected waterways and state protected waterways.
The changes would help landowners understand whether a project on their property will require a federal permit or not, without spending thousands of dollars on engineering and legal professionals, he said.
Environmentalists were quick to hose the proposal the Waterkeeper Alliance called it a sickening gift to polluters while Democrats dubbed it the dirty water rule and called on the Trump administration to reverse course.
Sen. Tom Carper, Delaware Democrat, called rolling back the Clean Water Act protections nothing short of senseless even as Republicans cited longstanding confusion over the laws definition of navigable waters.

I thought that they already did that.
I thought that they already did that.

I also thought they had already done that. I guess the process of undoing Obamas ECONOMICALLY DESTRUCTIVE regulations takes a long time.
Same as the Democrats cannot, will not acknowledge the word “Illegal” in front of the words either “Alien”, or “Immigrant”, they cannot acknowledge the word “Navigable” in front of the word “Waters”. Seems to be a standard, or common deficiency in the Democrat species.
Bump
There has been 100 years of liberals messing up the United States. It is into the third year of Trump, and he is just now tackling the top 3% of Obama injustices. At this rate we can expect our republic to be back on track in the year 4536.
This was one of the most unconscionable acts carried out by the Obama regime. And truly shameful that it was not ground out like a cigarette butt by the federal courts.
There is no confusion about what “navigable waters” means, unless you are willing to resort to sophistic legalisms, that is.
It had been an unconscionable power grab long predating Obama.
Me too but some asshat judge in North Carolina overruled the decision in 27 states by some convoluted logic or legal wrangling I never understood. The state I live in is one of the states where it is not nullified or withdrawn.
Don’t ask me to explain it because I can’t.
In my opinion any waterway that cannot accommodate a boat or ship with a draught of 12 feet is not a navigable waterway.
If you like your mud puddle, you can keep your mud puddle.
This one was started by the SOB demoncRAT senator from Wisconsin..cant remember his name.
Finegold..if thats how its spelled, and if its not I dont really give a rip.
Someone tell me : how much of the nation’s food is produced in Delaware??? This Senator is clueless.
Finally!
