The snow is falling lightly.
My thoughts are racing darkly.
I’m feeling something foreign, something I’ve never felt before. It takes me a moment to identify it.
I’m feeling sorry for the Clintons.
In the 27 years I’ve covered Bill and Hillary, I’ve experienced a range of emotions. They’ve dazzled me and they’ve disgusted me.
But now they’re mystifying me.
I’m looking around Scotiabank Arena, the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it’s a depressing sight. It’s two-for-the-price-of-one in half the arena. The hockey rink is half curtained off, but even with that, organizers are scrambling at the last minute to cordon off more sections behind thick black curtains, they say due to a lack of sales. I paid $177 weeks in advance. (I passed on the pricey meet-and-greet option.) On the day of the event, some unsold tickets are slashed to single digits.
I get reassigned to another section as the Clintons’ audience space shrinks. But even with all the herding, I’m still looking at large swaths of empty seats — and I cringe at the thought that the Clintons will look out and see that, too. It was only four years ago, after all, that Canadians were clamoring to buy tickets to see the woman who seemed headed for history.
It’s a sad contrast with the sold-out boffo book tour of Michelle Obama, who’s getting a lot more personal for the premium prices. But introspection has never been within the Clintons’ range.

Dear Maureen Dowd, All of what you have to say about the Clinton’s, everyone who has paid attention already knows. However, the damage you have done to this nation through your scalding lava hatred of our duly elected President, is far more damaging to the future of this country and it’s people than anything the Clinton’s have done. Bill’s sexual adventures and Hillary’s unusual ambitions and greed have not brought our system of government down, but you and your left wing press, full of propaganda and irrational, false stories and impressions all directed 24/7 to the current President and anyone connected to him, including the voters, is tragic and is connected directly to greed, envy and a feeling of entitlement. Hillary could never match you and your colleagues, Ms Dowd. And, those of us who know history will not forget who brought our nation down.
Clearly the Clintons booked these venues thinking they would counter the MAGA rally optics with boisterous, cheering Clinton parties...Instead they get desultory “crowds” and pity from Maureen Dowd.

I gotta question the honesty of that statement...'cuz one would think MoDo would get freebie tickets.

Because you know that those small crowds are killing their egos, especially as Trump continues to fill arenas to the rafters. Plus they are tired and I don’t imagine the really like to spend time together.
And I think with Trump in office, they are uncomfortable dipping into Clinton Foundation money because they’re not sure who’s watching from where.
I watched some you tube of that “performance”. It was glorious. Bad sound and staging. Ridiculous chairs that swallowed her up, made her look like a toad. And a coughing fit!
Or at worst the NYT reimbursed her for the ticket.
