Food banks around the country said they may not be prepared to execute the Trump administrations plan to get additional billions in food to hungry Americans...Last month, the administration set in motion a $1.2 billion program to send food to the nations food banks as part of its wider effort to bail out farmers hurt by the presidents trade war.
Local food bank officials said they are thrilled by the opportunity to feed more Americans who need help, but worry they will not be able to process all of the newly available agricultural products that could double or triple the amount of food they typically handle. They are racing to ramp up their capacity from trucking capabilities to refrigeration in time for the program, hoping not to miss on a rare opportunity to get fresh fruit and protein products to poor residents who lack them.

This is the bread, the circus is on TV (or now your cell phone).
Someone should remind Trump that the number one health problem for America’s poor people is - obesity!
Looked at signing up for Meals-On-Wheels when the health issues became worse. “Too young” they said.
Thanks blueplum. PMShill-and-Spin piece from the ComPost.

“The carnivore diet, recently popularized by Jordan Peterson & His daughter Mikhaila Peterson. People are having relief from arthritis, psoriasis, and various inflammatory conditions, and yes they are experiencing weight loss too.”
I gave this a try 3 months ago and have been very, very happy with the results. I am still on it.
Interesting video.
I’m happy it worked for you.
I inherited slender DNA from my slender parents. I’m also a life long runner. About 70% of my diet is junk food.
And, yes, I acknowledge that life is not fair.
You said it! If I had a dime for every 12 year old boy I’ve seen with a gut like a fifty year couch potato and in need of a bra I’d be rich. Honest to God sometimes I go to the mall or Shop Rite and I see 12 and 13 year old boys fat as heck.
This might fail. Perishables is a bad idea. Being canned might help. I hope I am wrong, but most of this is going to rot...
Just like the school lunches, Most just will not eat fresh foods that are good for you, they want fast food because they are too lazy to cook fresh foods. The newer generation doesn’t even know how.
Being canned would give all this a year and a half shelf life and most might be consumed and not wasted.
Local food banks where I live are open 5 days a week....with a different food group each day. Meat-—bread-—veggies, etc all on different days.
A serious food bank use must make 5 trips to get the rounded out diet the government tells us we must have. IF you are so poor that you need the food bank——you cannot be spending gs 5 days in a row to get that food. I am referring to a rural community.
There are very few hungry people in the US.
When the EBT crowd can use their cards at restaurants, they are NOT hurting for food.
When the vast majority of people throw out leftovers or let food rot in their fridges, they are NOT hungry. That’s money in the trash.
When school kids get free breakfast, free lunch and free afternoon snacks, they are NOT hungry. When anyone from 0-21 gets free lunches from school food trucks in the summer time, they are NOT going hungry.
In this house, we manage just fine on a food budget of $5/day for each of us. Last night’s dinner was $2.99/lb boneless beef ribs, rice pilaf and celery/almond/prune salad. Swished around olive oil in a pretty much empty dijon jar so got a salad dressing out of it before tossing the jar in the garbage. That’s about $1.50 for each plate. The night before was frozen tilapia fillets and frozen mixed veggies with scratch cheese sauce for even less. Compare that $1.50 with $15 for an EBT card holder to eat out on my taxes. Something is very, very wrong with “America’s hungry”.
I run 100 to 125 miles a month and cant get below 225 lbs. your a luck person. I have cut most red meat out of diet.
for a almost 60 year old man im Doing ok but cant seem to eat what I like any more.
A different food group every day is ridiculous. As you said, who can get there every day. What do they do with the food left over at the end of the day? Toss it in the garbage?
There are 4 food pantries in our little podunk town. Clicked on a couple of their websites to see comments meaning their customers have computers and internet. Such upside down priorities. That or they’re out for freebies.
Years ago, the food stamp secretary and my secretary shared the same front office window. The food stamp secretary finally got tired of their clients coming in whining about no milk for their kids while at the same time talking about having their hair and nails done before going out partying the night before. She crunched the numbers and realized they were making more than she was working 40/hr wk. She quit.
This is probably better than the typical government approach which is to buy with tax payer money & destroy the food. All government ideas seem to raise the prices for those of us that have to buy with our own money.
parents should be supplying food to feed their kids,, not the govt. Because if kids or adults eating govt provided food end up obese etc they will blame govt. plus it examples to kids to depend on govt or others for help instead of coming up with own ways to support themselves.
People need to be responsibile - for how many mouths they create, need feeding.
Church/Orgs taking part in govt subsidies to feed people also part of the problem.
