TOMS RIVER — Howell police Sgt. Richard Conte, the head of Monmouth County's emergency response team, was charged with attempting to lure or entice a minor into a motor vehicle.
Conte, 47, was arrested after being accused of making arrangements to meet a teenage girl in what turned out to be a sting operation in Toms River, according to a source familiar with the case but not authorized to speak about it

Makes you wonder about all these strict, state-of-the-art psychological tests the police are supposed to be run through these days. My elderly mother got a speeding ticket several years back & was compliant, but by the end of the interaction the cop was so worked up & belligerent that he was close to an emotional breakdown. If my mother was not absolutely quiet & respectful, she feels that he was on the verge of pulling her right out of the car window.
While completely understanding that there are jobs that need done, the whole ‘SWAT’ concept has always struck me as Orwellian.
They often exude a bigtime overkill vibe - in some cases quite literally.
Up-train some of the guys you already have, maybe hire a couple new ones and do the same.
But leave the APCs etc at the Guard depots.
If a situation is that far out of hand, they’re the ones who probably need called in anyway.

I remember watching to catch a predator back when it was on, that they caught one guy three times, yes, every time they set up in this one particular city, I can’t remember what one, they caught this guy twice in one weekend and again a month later, mostly because he was out of bail or awaiting trial or whatever. These guys are really dumb
The militarization of these SWAT teams has not helped things.
And 80 percent of that is his pension when he retires at age 45....
Yeah, I don't get it. They just ran one of these stings here in Jacksonville. Busted 17 dudes looking for underage sex including a man who works with at-risk kids and a naval officer.
They run these stings ALL THE TIME! And every time, guys are lined up around the block looking to get screw some kid.
THEY ARE ALWAYS STINGS!
And these guys who get busted? There's no social or professional recovery from that. They lose everything! Get a DWI or even get busted shoplifting and eventually your friends and family will forgive you. Eventually someone will give you a job. Try explaining yourself to people you know after getting busted trying to screw some middle-school girl. Good luck with that! You're ostracized forever.

Wisconsin just arrested a dozen or so pervs in a sting operation up in the Green Bay area.
The most AWESOME part about it was that they had about 400 more pervs that they’ve been following on-line while they were watching, buying or selling kiddie porn and they sent each and every one of them an e-mail to the effect, ‘We know who you are. We know what you’re up to. You’re next.’
I know. I know! The Little Libertarian in me is screaming her fool head off about ‘rights to privacy’ but you know what? The REST of me doesn’t CARE when it comes to protecting kids (born & unborn) and animals.

I had a trooper insist that I argue with him. I kept saying, “I’m sorry sir. I can’t respond. Please write me a ticket so we can continue on our way.” Then, he saw my license to carry and went ballistic. My companion, a workman, leaned forward and pressed both hands flat on the dash, it was that frightening. He insisted I had to tell him I was carrying. I told him no. He wanted to argue. Again, I said, “I’m sorry. I will not argue with you.” Then, he spent about twenty minutes on the radio, brought back my gun unloaded with the action open. He was suddenly quiet and respectful. He said I was indeed correct that I had no affirmative requirement to inform him I was carrying a gun. My companion said, “You didn’t get a ticket because he embarrassed the hell out of himself.” Yep.
