If the NFL goes away college football as you know it goes away too. Most of the players at the football factory schools are only there to audition for the NFL. Fine with me, the colleges don’t stand for the anthem either, so to hell with ‘em.

See Dexter Manley.

Or James Brooks.

In an article by Taylor Branch entitled “The Shame of College Sports”, prior to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Education, Arts, and Humanities in 1989, Dexter Manley was famously quoted as saying that he had been functionally illiterate in college

And check the arrest sheets for your favorite college team.

Florida had seven players suspended for their opener for various reasons.

“James Brooks was arrested in 1999 for failure to pay child support, owing over $110,000. During proceedings, it was revealed that Brooks was illiterate, despite having received a college degree. When asked by the judge how he graduated from Auburn, Brooks said, “I didn’t have to go to class.”

That would change. Football would go back to being just a fun game that encourages teamwork and competition. It’s become brutal with oversized players and unreal violence.

Tough games are one thing, brutal violence is another. Let it go back to being a past time

I’d be happy if both football and basketball would be required to follow the Division III format, no scholarships for athletics.

Yet I know plenty of veterans that believe the protests don’t, in any way, demean their sacrifice or service.

*************

As a veteran, I feel just the opposite. Very few NFL players have ever served in the military so they cannot fathom the personal sacrifice and hardships that entails. One wonders what they would do if called upon to defend the country. Taking a few moments to show respect for the flag and those who served is asking precious little of them.

Many of the protesters do not care enough to even provide a coherent explanation of why they are protesting. In my opinion they are a bunch of ingrates who do not appreciate the greatness of this country.

they will blame it on the rain, unpredictable climate change and white supremists.

And, of course, Donald J. Trump. LOL

See, that would be perfect, and make it mandatory that good grades are maintained in REAL classes in order to play.

I say, instead of playing the National Championship Game, make players from the top two teams play in a new version of “The College Bowl” quiz game, and the winner is declared the National Champion.

I think the MLB is relevant in that it too is suffering from some of the same issues that the NFL is (i.e., games drag on, replays take forever, an ever increasing number of rules, too many commercials, etc). And, I think there is also some frustration with ridiculous player salaries, drug use, and general behavior issues (mostly off the field in the case of MLB) that fans don’t like to see.

I also think there is some bleed over from the NFL in that pro athletes are being perceived by many as overpaid, pampered ingrates.

Two different sports but sharing some similar problems and perceptions. Just my take.

That would be like the Big Bang Theory episode where Kripke and Sheldon had a sports competition for something or another, I don’t remember

The line from the NFL is that overall tv viewership is down, and the NFL is still tops in ratings among tv offerings.

Probably because everything else on TV is also leftist inspired propaganda.

Can you imagine the likes of Nick Saban having to recruit brainiacs to come to Alabama just to be available for that?

More important than the fact that I didn’t see any of the game is the fact that I,a member of the middle class (perhaps even the *upper* middle class),didn’t see any of the ads.

There was no real competition from other networks or other activities.

A lot of this could have been prevented if the NFL and the NBA had followed the baseball model and set up a minor league system so that players who have no interest in academics could still play and not have to pretend they are students.
