Drejka, 48, invoked the "stand your ground" law, saying that he was in fear of his life after McGlockton shoved him to the ground when he came out of a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida, to find Drejka allegedly berating his girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, about parking in a handicap space.
"I followed the law the way I felt the law was supposed to be followed," Drejka told WTSP-TV in Tampa Bay. "I cleared every hurdle that that law had put in front of me."
On July 19, Drejka spotted Jacobs sitting in her car parked in a handicap spot outside the Circle A convenience store in Clearwater waiting for McGlockton, the father of her three children, to come out.
He said he confronted Jacobs because he has a "pet peeve" about seeing people illegally parked in spots reserved for the disabled.
Drejka said he once had a childhood sweetheart who was disabled in a car crash when she was 16, and that his mother-in-law is disabled.
"I always said, my whole life is always looking for a handicapped parking spot," Drejka said in the interview conducted Friday at the Pinellas County Jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bail. "And it just always touched a nerve with me."
Investigators said Drejka, who is not disabled, was alone on the day of the shooting.
He denied that the episode with Jacobs and McGlockton had anything to do with race, and said it was "totally false" that he used racial slurs in the encounter with Jacobs or anyone else.

Need more info....but shooter seems like he could have lady in fear of her life also....if victim continued to accost shooter...maybe he is in fear of life also...bad reactions all around....what a waste....dont start it up if you are licensed to carry gun
Without commenting on this case, this is why I do not carry my pistol.
Greatly reduces my chances of shooting someone with it, rightly or wrongly. Not really interested in doing that.
Further not really interested in having to defend myself legally for having done that.

If the lady was legitimately in fear of her life from a man doing nothing other than speaking to her, then the man who was slung to the ground was even more so legitimately in fear of his life.
The person who initiated violence in this matter is the person who is dead, so we’ll see what happens in terms of legality.
I side with Drejka on this, sort of. He is a jerk and a self righteous busybody but, unless he broke a law when he spoke to the woman in the handicapped space he was within the law as written when the much bigger man knocked him to the ground and moved to continue the assault. He should get off the charge of murder in any degree but he deserves the hassle he is getting and it may but probably will not teach him to assiduously avoid butting into situations that have the possibility of escalating.

I’m a Florida man who lawfully carries a concealed weapon. Drejka’s stupidity is an insult to the millions of us who carry everyday and contentiously avoid causing conflicts that could lead to the need to discharge a weapon.
