Ocasio-Cortez Tells Hawaii Dems Her Life Shaped By ‘Unaddressed History of Imperialism’
Breitbart ^ | 08/10/18 | Tony Lee

Posted on 08/11/2018 9:15:31 AM PDT by Enlightened1

Democratic-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who, as Breitbart News reported, was born in the Bronx and raised in the affluent suburb of Westchester, told Hawaii Democrats on Thursday evening that her life has been shaped by “an unaddressed history of imperialism and poverty.”

Ocasio-Cortez was campaigning for Hawaii Democratic congressional candidate Kaniela Ing ahead of this weekend’s primary election and argued that Hawaii felt like a “kindred home” because she also comes “from a place of colonized people.”

Ocasio-Cortez said that she and Ing had similar life experiences even though they grew up worlds apart because they both lost their fathers when they were young and had to work multiple jobs to help their families make ends meet. And, she added, “We come from a family and a place that had been colonized.”

She told the crowd that her mother was from Puerto Rico and many of her family members still live there before claiming that she and Ing were “shaped by the exact same forces” like “runaway income inequality, an unaddressed history of imperialism, and poverty.”

She added that Puerto Ricans and Hawaiians still have to deal “with the consequences of those struggles.”

“While the entire country wants to forget that history, we’re not allowed to,” she said. “We are not afforded the privilege to forget about the colonial history of our island, and neither is Hawaii.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been campaigning for likeminded candidates across the country to build a bench of left-wing Democratic-socialist candidates. She implied on CNN earlier in the week that even though some of her candidates, like Michigan gubernatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed, lost to establishment Democrats earlier in the week, they beat the spread and helped “move the needle forward in the fight for social and economic dignity in the United States.”

I would suggest the hybrid term, “slimeballing”.

Shouldn’t she be campaigning to get elected? Joe Crowley is still on the ballot...hope he wins...

Her victory is a foregone conclusion. Crowley is not campaigning, has endorsed her, and remains on the ballot only through a quirk in New York State law.

The sad unvarnished truth is that most of these colonized people were far better governed as colonies. You can point to several $#*+hole counties in particular who became independent mostly in the 20 years following the end of World War II whose only semi-functional infrastructure remaining is what they inherited from their colonial rulers.

Wouldn't that be cruel justice? Who's the Repbulican?

Appears less than 30,000 people voted in the entire district?

The Republican is Anthony Pappas. Seems he is a place marker? Doesn't seem to be trying to win what might be a winnable seat if Ocasio-Cortez keeps running her mouth.

Both of these are pretty lame. Why has the Republican party stepped up to help him?

Unbelievable hatred for America. Yeah mistakes were made, many of them way over a hundred years ago. But for anyone today to claim that this is what determines the course of their life, is an admission that they are worthless as a person.

[[she left Puerto Rico to come to this imperialist hateful country?? Where’s her family has prospered and now to has the potential to win a two year seat in the government of the country she hates??]]

I wish a republican candidate, or trump himself, would say this exact thing about her- What a powerful campaign volley that would be against her- force her to admit she doesn’t actually hate the country- which would make her out to be a liar-

I saw this coming after Clinton (perv) was elected.. That is the reason I left the military and ended up here (Japan).

Sadly, things haven’t seemed to get much better :/

When the actual CWII starts, I will swim back to the states, if I have to.

ROTFL. Evil, white American “imperialists” need cocktail waitresses to bring them their scotch and sodas.

Laura Ingraham (I think it was her) once said that most Americans are somewhat right of center. I believe that’s what happened to Hillary. The Bolsheviks were also a minority party

Hawaii has its own forgotten history. As a rather strategic Pacific position in the age of coal-powered ships, it was a prize that was eyed by many of the imperialistic European Powers as well as The United States. It was linked to the US by supply efforts from the days of the California Gold Rush and by the US dominated whaling industry of the 1800s. Yes the Americans came uninvited and 'bought' land and pushed Christianity through missionary zeal, but there was no wholesale slaughter of the natives.

Failing the US, look at the history of sub-Saharan Africa and think if one or more of those colonial powers had moved in on a military weak Hawaii. Real politick is called that for a reason. Power vacuums tend to be filled! Ms Ocasio-Cortez might think of an independent (1804), self-ruled (for values thereof) country of Hati for a comparison of the ills of imperialism!
