YouTube Is Fighting Back Against Climate Misinformation (LOL!)
BuzzFeed.com ^ | 8/7/2018 | Zahra Hirji

YouTube is now adding fact checks to videos that question climate change, BuzzFeed News has confirmed, as a part of its ongoing effort to combat the rampant misinformation and conspiratorial fodder on its platform.

On July 9, the company added a blurb of text underneath some videos about climate change, which provided a scientifically accurate explainer. The text comes from the Wikipedia entry for global warming and states that "multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming."

This new feature follows YouTube’s announcement in March that it would place descriptions from Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica next to videos on topics that spur conspiracy theories, such as the moon landing and the Oklahoma City bombing. In doing the same for climate videos, the company seems to be wading into more fraught and complex intellectual territory.

George Orwell is throwing up in his grave.

Now WIKIPEDIA will be used to refute 'Climate deniers' on their YouTube videos!

Now I understand the Marxist urge to purge the universities by Mao a lot better . . . I've written here before and it bears repeating; until we get into the colleges in this country and fight for intellectual diversity, using the Alinsky tactics right back at them, we will be fighting an uphill battle for generations to come.

Stop using all these Soviet-style Democrat-controlled outlets. This country lived for over two centuries without them and will survive longer if they all go broke. NEVER buy anything you have seen advertised on these networks.

Why are we allowing the Deep State & the Left to use monopolized social media platforms (where most people get their information) to censor us? We lose if this stands.

Most Americans use them. If we stop using them, we will be a permanent minority politically. We fight on this battlefield or we lose.

until we get into the colleges in this country and fight for intellectual diversity,

Or, via the internet and other means, the brick and mortal colleges can be discredited, defunded and crash and burn under their own weight.

Like what happened to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Still there physically, but mostly a Potemkin village.

I know as conservatives we abhor gov. regulation of private businesses.
The capitalist solution is to compete....which takes time and huge sums of money.
For example, I use GAB.AI now more than twitter.
On the other side of the coin, when these outfits become so huge as to be essentially a monopoly, no longer remain politically neutral, take certain positions, banning free speech, etc.; maybe the time has come to take a hard look/see at just what is going on and break em up.

Just in case anyone is under the delusion that the market will produce conservative outlets, the Left will go after domain name registrars. That’s how far up the chain this will go. The threat will be to banish all dissent to the dark web, but it won’t come to that. Fear not, they will allow a nice, safe, controlled opposition to exist online.

Either that, or the figurative spirit of Orwell is grinning with “I told you so.”

I agree. Surrendering the social media battlefield isn’t an option. These tech giants can play conservative wack-a-mole all they want, but there are too many of us for it to ever really be effective. Besides, if they turn their platforms too much into the Daily Kos comments section, they will only create their own business competitors who currently don’t exist.

from the article: "Wikipedia entry for global warming and states that 'multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming.' "

Just so we're clear on this point: nobody disputes most numbers showing rising temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere and falling temperatures in the Antarctic.

The issues are:

  1. Are these temperature changes within the normal range for previous late-stage interglacials?
    Answer: yes.

  2. Are these normal temperature changes natural or "man made"?
Answer: certainly natural with some possible contribution from man-made "greenhouse gasses".

  3. Do we know the percentage of each?
    Answer: no, only guestimates.

  4. Is global warming a good thing or bad thing?
Answer: overall, a good thing, especially when accompanied by rising CO2 levels, aka: plant-food.

  5. When is the next ice-age due to arrive"
    Answer: any day now.

  6. Are ice ages good things or bad?
Answer: bad things for life on earth.

  7. So if man-made global warming somehow delays the next ice age by a few centuries, or millenia, is that a good thing, or bad?
    Answer: good.

  8. So what, exactly, is the problem?
Answer: Since the fall of the old Soviet Union international socialists have needed a cause to support, and man-made global warming fits their bill to a "T".

Ever since capitalism and capitalists were shown to be the saviors of mankind from poverty, international socialists have desperately grasped for issues they could use to declare capitalists and capitalist republics "evil".

And, sadly, many have bought into it.

Break them up into what?

Multiple companies with multiple lib CEOs? More people to collude with each other.

And what can Twitter be broken up into? They only have one product.

The university system has become a total sham, and the idea of having campuses of buildings is anachronistic for most 21st century educational needs. I’ll be encouraging my kid to go to e-college.

(1) We need to realize the battle of truth vs. lies is a celestial scale battle. This scarcely began with modern media. It began with Satan’s bullshit artistry (to use a crude term) before God.

(2) God WILL win in the end, but appropriating the victory at a particular time and place is a matter of the choice and determination we give ourselves to. The bible advises “Run as so to win.” This exhortation wouldn’t be given if it were never possible that people at a particular time and place could either fail to run, or run so as to lose.

(3) Those who want the truth may be small and few, but their influence can be greatly outsize to their number. Cf. a number of divine victories outlined in the bible, which didn’t depend on numbers but on depth of faith in which action was taken.

(4) We sometimes conflate conservatism with Christianity and that’s not entirely true. Our modern left has been stolen by Satan, and that’s why it both goes profligate and jeers at conservative concerns. But the bible makes no bones about it: “Visit the widow and orphan in their distress.” God even punished certain generations of Hebrews for violating this. So bible categories don’t entirely match with modern political categories.

Is you tube fact check videos that promote climate change? Why fact check one side and not the other?

“...Break them up into what?...”
Maybe more on the lines of baseball bats and broken bones????.....LOL...Antifa-style...just kidding.
I see your point. However, they are going from a “platform” to a “publishing house”.
And what they’re “publishing” is not the truth.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

“The text comes from the Wikipedia entry for global warming and states that “multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming.”

Lol, a viscous circle of misinformation!

William Connolley, a software engineer, (not a climate scientist) revised thousands and thousands of wiki pages with his propaganda. He was banned for 6 months in 2010:

“In a vote of 7-0, The most prolific climate revisionist editor ever at Wikipedia, with over 5400 article revisions has been banned from making any edits about climate related articles for six months.”

Climate science on wiki, is mostly the opinion of a british software engineer.
