(Reuters) - Four senior U.S. House Republicans sent letters on Monday to the chief executives of Apple Inc and Google parent Alphabet Inc asking questions about location data and mobile phone privacy practices and the handling of customer data.
The chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Greg Walden, along with three other senior Republicans on the panel, wrote the companies to probe the companies representation of third-party access to consumer data, and the collection and use of audio recording data as well as location information via iPhone and Android devices.
Alphabet did not immediately respond to a request for comment and an Apple spokesman declined to comment. The letters, made public by the committee on Monday, said the companies may be using consumer data, including location information and recordings of users in ways that consumers do not expect.

Not good enough — no questions about bias against conservatives.
This is slightly related but I am not sure how it works out for privacy
I rarely use google.com (prefer DDG) but I do visit youtube a lot for news, commentary etc....
Today I went to Google for a reverse image search and got a notice from them confirming I was opted out of personalized ads, but giving me the option to have ads personalized.
I had an idea.
I logged into one of my google accounts, and searched
Best handguns under $500
Best rifles under $500
Best milsurp rifles under $500
Obama is a marxist
Clinton is a traitor
etc etc...
Now I am pretty sure their ad profile is not just based on what i searched but what I click on inside those google searches (which won’t be much), but also based on other cookies/ beacons they leave on my Mac and iPhone, which I do clear out at least a few times a day on the Mac with Cookie (and manually on my iPhone).
I guess I’ll wait and see if my ads change,
any thoughts?
Google may not do anything for gun ads. . . LOL!
