Marijuana users feel MORE pain:...cannabis lowers pain tolerance...users need more painkillers [Tr]

The drug, which is legal for medical use in the majority of US states, is mainly prescribed to ease pain. But this new research conducted in Colorado - which was the first state to legalize - suggests that short-term pain relief could weaken the body's resilience to pain over time. The researchers, from the Swedish Medical Center, Colorado, analyzed around 260 people who were involved in minor vehicle accidents and admitted to trauma centers. Of these, 54 tested positive for recent marijuana use while 16 claimed they used the drug more or less every day.

“In b4 the church ladies blaming demons.”

No you’re not. Several of the first 5 posts are already foaming at the mouth with killer zeal.

"Further explains why mj is the gateway drug."

Then why are legalized states doing better overall than prohibition states with respect to deaths from OD? Take Oregon, for example. It was one of the only states that saw a decline between 2010 and 2016 =>

“On average, the marijuana users required 7.6mg of opioid painkillers a day in hospital, compared to 5.6mg for non-drug users.”

That’s a tiny dose of morphine. It’s a moderate dose of Dilaudid. I wonder if the difference between 7.6mg and 5.6mg is statistically significant.

“On a scale of zero-to-10, with 10 being the worst, people who had used cannabis rated their daily pain as 4.9, compared to 4.2 for non users.”

Yeah, there’s some *real* science. /s

Self-reporting of pain level on a scale of 1 to 10. How much more precise and reliable could they get? I wonder if there’s statistical significance there, either.

“This could cause marijuana users to stay in hospital longer because ‘we don’t want to discharge them on massive doses of narcotics’, said Dr Anne Wagner, from the UCHealth Burn Center, Colorado, who was not involved in the study.

7.6mg is “massive?” More hysteria.

“Users may also experience drug withdrawal, such as nausea and vomiting, which can delay healing.”

No fake-science crap report would be complete without at least one outright, obvious lie.

” but have doctors ever really recommended it as a painkiller? “

Yes, there are varieties that are very effective pain killers...especially low-grade chronic pain/inflammation like arthritis.

Which I originally scoffed at. When I was a kid, pot did nothing for pain besides make you more aware of it.

Now many people use it to extend and reduce opioids, or abandon them altogether.

I guess it’s a variety thing.

Three weeks ago, I wrote the following:

I have only four acquaintances who’ve smoked pot. Two are on oxygen. One, the youngest, is dead. The fourth, the only conservative, lost a child to miscarriage. When I advised him of the study connecting marijuana to miscarriage, they’ve stopped visiting.

As of last week, one (of the two) who was on oxygen is now dead: we'd been next-door neighbors for 60 years. (All of his life).

Need more weed!

And pizza...
And brownies...
With ice cream...
And Doritos...

In any given study, a number of people will exaggerate their pain to get more drugs. I don’t think marijuana is any different in this regard. It’s not physically addictive, but some people will abuse anything. The consequences appear to be less than current prescription and even non-prescription pain meds. I’ve never known anyone to overdose on pot, but I have known people who’ve died from taking too much Tylenol.

I knew people understood what I meant. I had skin cancer removed from my nose next to the tear duct and tear duct still has the stint in and secretes and irritating fluid in my eye. I’m not a regular user. 121 cbd thc allowed to rest well after taking pain meds that made want to puke.

“There may be other uses as well, but have doctors ever really recommended it as a painkiller?”

No. They say, “I am not legally permitted to advise you to use pot, but *some* people (wink, wink) say it works.”

“maybe you could pause smoking weed for a few minutes while you post so your sentences make more sense...”

And you post a sentence that starts with a lower-case letter and ends with “...”?

So, are you saying pot caused these deaths?

If so, how?

Yes and Cannabinoid Byperemesis syndrome which can make one Vomit for days, always after using it. Causing one to wish they were dead.

“I’ve never known anyone to overdose on pot, but I have known people who’ve died from taking too much Tylenol.”

Odd that you should mention Tylenol. It’s rarely mentioned on these threads.

And it’s downright DEADLY.

My nephew (34yrs old) is in certain death spiral due to Tylenol. It burned his liver up.

And to top it off, they put it in most opioid pills. That’s how he got his. 8-10 Vicodin per day for about 10 years due to a chronic back injury.

And it killed him. He’s just not dead yet.

The pain scale they all use is absolutely ridiculous. Asked for pain meds in the hospital, nurse asked what my pain level was. Hmm....surgery about 12 hours ago...open wounds, I’ll give it a 6.

She said she couldn’t give me IV drugs unless I said my pain level was 7 or higher. She asked what my pain level was and I told her 7. Got my shot.

Stupid.

I have also found that opioids make me puke, and many years ago, when I used to smoke, weed cured the nausea associated with motion sickness, which is a very heavy nausea.

But there are apparently plenty of people around here who would rather see you in prison for curing your nausea with THC, and frankly, I find people such as that rather nauseating.

You need to get out more. Here in Florida, probably half the people I know smoke pot, or have. Including CEO’s, cops, lawyers, the little old lady kitty corner across the street...

I used to. Lots. Too much. Not anymore.

I’ll tell you a secret: competitive swimmers smoke tons of pot, often before workouts. See: Michael Phelps. He wasn’t an anomalie. Professional motorcyclists often smoke a little right before a race. They say it increases their sharpness—they can listen to their engines better.

I could go on and on...

No one, no one, who gets caught with “non-distribution” volumes of dope goes to prison on a first conviction. Hell, not even a second conviction. Ive seen up to five convictions of marijuana possession and they still got probation.

Its a dopey lie that our prisons are full of poor souls who only had less than one ounce.

Back in the day, possession of any amount of MJ in Lousiana was a felony. Even a single stem. Not sure what the law is there now, but that’s how it was.

Why should anyone have to pay a lawyer to defend their freedom for possessing pot?

Why?

Why is anyone who smoked or possessed pot in prison?
