He wasnt on the shooters property. It was time to determine if the guy was really a neighbor or not. No shot should have been fired into the air or anywhere unless he was trespassing on the gun owners property.
If someone blocked me on a road leading to my property and pulled a gun. I would have a $h!t fit. If the gun owner wished to follow me to my house so be it. I would have a key. But dont point a gun at me EVER. Not to be taken lightly.
The gun owner was obviously a wannabe cop or something. He certainly wasnt too bright.
Since when does your right of self defense end at your property line. The old man was clearly menaced, do you agree with that statement or not?
I did not see menacing. Perhaps that was missing from the video clip I saw.
Was the gun owner blocking the road? Or blocking his own property?
If antifa blocks the road I go past. If antifa pulls a gun, I get a gun.
Damn man, if you don’t agree with that statement change your moniker, lol.
Really? Were you there? How do you know what thoughts go through the mind of someone who is about to lose their entire house and the history contained within? You arm chair Rambos are a real hoot on this site............LOL!
Must be the hot lava baking people’s brains!
“Misguided FReepers” lol.
Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children. lol.
For Hawaii, that is an exceedingly neat and well groomed house. Most do not take such pride in ownership.
Oh yeah, who was the clown that dug up his neatly mowen lawn? The perps he accosted come back to do a little revenge vandalism?
Living nearby (within walking distance) does not make you a neighbor. It means you live nearby. There just be more to this story than what has been released so far, like maybe some bad relations in the past. So far the shooter has been portrayed as a crazy old man with a gun; was the other guy in his Boy Scout uniform when he approached the property?
And of course, if the other guy kept approaching a cop and that cop fired a shot, would everybody on this thread feel the same way about the outcome? Like I said, there might be more to this story we have not heard about yet. Plenty of time for details when the lava stops flowing and people are not at risk. Hopefully soon.
Where is the video???
You may have noticed that I tagged this post with "teotwawki." While I'm a relative noob, I lurked for about 13 years. One of my favorite sets of posts over the years came chiefly from Kartographer and blam, primarily those related to a survivor of the collapse in Bosnia named Selco.
What I learned from those posts was that when the SHTF, we will have NO IDEA what it'll be like. Yes, you can (and should) always have more than a few days of food and water on hand. But when conditions start to resemble that of a swear, don't be surprised when people act like rats.
I am not condoning the actions of Mr Hubbard. From my HEPA-filtered home with running water and multiple means of ingress and egress, his actions look reprehensible. But I AM saying that if you surrounded my family with volcanic hell, and there are reports coming in of looting, and some dude I didn't recognize comes dancing near my home, the lessons of Selco would argue that less-than-normal reactions would ensue.
Your normal perimeter for you home during a norm day is your threshold, at night it certainly moves out depending on history, building security, and so on and during shtf it moves way out. You can’t survive with possible hostiles inside your perimeter. That’s why you don’t let every yahoo, yute, islamaslob and gang banger in the world come across your border!!!
He did have a nice house and yard, for sure. Very pretty place. I have no idea how long he’s lived there but he obviously liked the place a lot.
I agree. No one knows how they’ll react when the SHTF and it’s hit pretty hard over there.
There have been people milling around that neighborhood day and night the past few weeks, mainly to get video of the fissures and lava. But who knows how many have shown up with other ideas in mind? Bill had already evacuated the house but apparently kept going back to check on it. Had he just run someone off his property before this all went down? The ruts in his yard looked very fresh and I doubt he did it with his own vehicle.
We don’t know. All we know is he apparently snapped and reacted in a way he shouldn’t have - - a way that’s gotten him into a HEAP of trouble.
Firearms are the next level of escalation, if it comes to that. A machete in my own yard is within the BS laws here, midnight landscaping, don't you know.
Not mentioned, but this devastated area was known for meth production, being well away from most areas of higher police presence. More than a few unsavory types, and this guy was likely well aware of this and what they might try and pull off.
You mean people act to protect their lives and homes when catastrophe strikes?
Shocking!/s
One thing to remember, and folks had better think very long and hard about it before they act like Arnold Schwarzenegger with the premise of “protecting their home”:
Once Law & Order gets restored (as bad as the situation, whatever it may be looks like) and it will get restored. Those who fired their guns, will be held accountable for every bullet they fired.
I’m not advocating for folks to be limp with evil looters, but you have to be aware that your actions will be brought into question once a semblance of order is restored.
"...protecting their home..."
