It was an ordinary day in 2011 when I found myself watching a YouTube video of a gun owner making a semiautomatic rifle discharge bullets rapidly, as if it were an automatic weapon.
My gun-owning husband watches firearms videos like this one, however, I had never seen one. Intrigued, I sat down on the couch to absorb the imagery.
Hooking his thumb through the belt loop of his pants, the YouTuber demonstrated how pushing the gun forward, rather than pulling the trigger, allowed the gun's recoil to "keep the gun going."
In other words, he was bump firing his rifle.

“I learned that gun owners share ideas, images of firearms and videos, signaling to others the accepted norms, values and activities of gun subculture. They use hashtags like #freedom or #2A, for the Second Amendment. They post key words and phrases such as “take our rights away,” “patriot class,” and “lock ‘n’ load.” One gun owner shares tactical advice on what to do if you ever encounter zombies. Others showcase their rapid-fire skills with semiautomatic guns; explain how to clean a firearm; complain about political parties and gun control organizations; and compare gun types, such as a “Glock 17 vs. Ruger SR9.”
I’ve observed that gun-owning YouTubers have a lot of fun filming themselves and their friends shooting all kinds of things - targets, “zombies” and computers.
Previously, I had thought about guns as mostly dangerous, unnecessary and likely to lead to a homicide or suicide.
Not any more.
I am now attached to certain YouTube videos. And, having peered into several gun owners’ YouTube worlds, I feel a sense of familiarity with them, despite not knowing any of them personally.”
Take you a glass of water
Make it against the law
See how good that water tastes
When you can’t have any at all...
As a gun owner I say "no," because we've already done it: it's called "television."
WE are not the ones ignorant of the other side's position, motivation, and duplicity.
Literally thousands of gun control laws on the books, this person talks in terms of finding common ground to implement more.
Gun control freaks have got to have at least some form of brain damage.
>>Commentary: Want to understand gun owners? Watch their videos
Want to understand anti-gunners?

I agree with the article. Amateur and semi-pro videos are an excellent window into the mind of people you don’t understand. Dumbasses will expose their soul to the world for a few likes on FB or YouTube.
She’s a hyphenated wife. Problems right off the bat.
And the one thing I have found true of ALL leftists is they can do is make quasi-reasonable sounding arguments that are ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS predicated on unstated, unproven assertions that are themselves legitimate subjects of dispute.
THAT is why they can't tolerate actual "free speech."
Hey, I like that term patriot class.” I’m going to start using it.
“To that end, I propose that gun control and gun rights supporters watch 100 YouTube videos featuring content from the opposing camp.”
Are there any YouTube videos featuring gun control that isn’t just mindless rants?
I always remember the statement by one of the leading anti's twenty some years ago---"--a lot of our people couldn't care less about crime--they just want to beat the NRA"
>>And the one thing I have found true of ALL leftists is they can do is make quasi-reasonable sounding arguments that are ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS predicated on unstated, unproven assertions that are themselves legitimate subjects of dispute.
This is why I read what they write in publications where they are preaching to their own choir. They go into greater detail there, and then when I’m talking to some Prog and she (because all Progs are of the female gender, regardless of plumbing) is spewing the party line, I can argue against the sources of her statements because I took the time to study them. It infuriates them when I know more about their ideology than they do because I use mental jiu-jitsu to pull them in as if I’m a Fellow Traveler, but then I flip it and break down the source, typically by citing another Prog source.
It is quite fun.
Well, it couldn’t be about crime or safety because they ignore those things.
Youtube gun vid fanboi thinks he “knows” someone because he watched their video.
The digital dementia among our young is pandemic.
This is just another one of those can’t we all get along and agree on gun control articles. This woman must be delusional if she thinks bump fire youtubers want a conversation about gun control. No they just want to shoot guns. LOL! Yeh I love to discuss gun control after watching a You tube of fps Russia.
Yeah, I’m dead to the gun control folks. “:^)
Always fun to see an earnest liberal squinting at the enemy class through a magnifying class like bugs on a plate, and hear the profundities that result.
If you're in the right, any compromise is very harmful.
Here is the Leftist view of compromise, and the obvious downside on many more issues than this one.
Won't you give up just half the guns?
One word answer to why I support the Second Amendment.
Democrats.
