UPDATE: Yeti says NRA’s claims are ‘inaccurate

Update: Austin-based Yeti says claims made by the National Rifle Association over the weekend are “inaccurate” and that the company is “unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.”

In an email to its members, the NRA claimed Yeti “suddenly, without prior notice” indicated it no longer wished to do business with the NRA Foundation.

Not so, says Yeti. The maker of coolers and thermal mugs says the NRA has twisted its words.

“A few weeks ago, Yeti notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs,” Yeti said in a written statement Monday afternoon. “When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations about this change, Yeti explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the (NRA) distributed on April 20.

Yeti, isn’t this the company that make a $1500 cooler? I bought 3 cars that cost less than that.

"...a really big dumpster fire..."

Agreed on all points. Yeti got all panicky when they realized NRA/GOA folks didn’t like their condescending tone.

I seriously doubt the NRA imagined this. It ALWAYS happens when either one of the two scenarios occur:

1) They hired a Metrosexual for their ‘Communications’ team and he went full-left without authorization, or

2) The owner/president is either a Leftist or doesn’t understand the Left and figured this is what the country, and his customer base, wanted and either directed the attack on the NRA, or approved of the idea.

Usually, #2, as most people in business simply don’t spend enough time trying to understand the Left. Either way, they need a good bitch-slapping, and they’re getting it. Unless they come out FRONT AND CENTER as full NRA supporters, they are doomed...and they deserve it.

"This smells like a rapid 180 degree turn and a major damage control operation."

And the accompanying..."what, anti-NRA? Naw, you got it all wrong.

Ahh, some of my best friends belong to the NRA. Really!"

“Moreover, Yeti is unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.”

And so claimed Hillary in 2016...means nothing, ACTIONS talk, and now let’s see some ACTION from Yeti, rather than just words.

Regardless. Whoever at YETI made this bonehead move, her/she/it has forever soiled the brand.

It does not matter since their product is WAY overpriced and way oversized. Who wants a huge cooler that only holds a 12 pack.

It was a big mistake to dis the NRA with their product line.

The backlash from their NRA customers must have been severe as they are now back tracking.

This smells like a rapid 180 degree turn and a major damage control operation.

I agree. Yeti states:

A few weeks ago,

Now, more than a few weeks ago (Feb 14, 2018) is when Parkland happened. In any good company, a high-profile situation like that will spawn lots of discussions about what, if any, response the firm will make. For most firms, it is business as usual.

For a firm like Yeti, I have GOT to imagine this got C-suite attention. Furthermore, even if Yeti was working on a program to "eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs" I would hope the people involved would check with Investor Relations or something like that, to ensure everyone was synchronized.

Even more to the point, I would hope a firm like Yeti which is so intertwined with activities associated with guns, would have contacted the NRA to let them know where they stand. By virtue of the NRA's response, I guess that didn't happen.

Of course, signals can get crossed and not all firms are efficient. Maybe I'm wrong, and I am not a follower of Yeti nor a consumer of their products so I can't vouch for the extent to which their DNA is intertwined with KABA. But I gotta tell ya, their response sounds like what you'd expect from a Fudd.

I got the same e-mail in response to my message which was similar to yours.
It’s blather to cover their blunder.

What other organizations?
Name just one.

No matter what the truth is, YETI has hurt it’s brand name by not getting out in front of it.

Good for you. I keep telling people we need to have more of "us" than "them", but a lot of people don't know how this "democracy" stuff works.

Kids are the most important thing in the world.
