Starbucks’ diversity training won’t help unless it makes white people uncomfortable (barf)
the Undefeated ^

Within moments of the story going viral, many identified implicit bias, on the part of the store manager and/or the police, as the potential culprit. However, this suggests that, as a society, we have overlearned the lesson of implicit bias at the expense of acknowledging other societal and structural factors that might also be at play. Implicit bias alone, as pervasive as it is, cannot explain why black people in America are at risk when we get locked out of our own apartment, have car trouble, laugh with friends and, yes, sit quietly at Starbucks.

Starbucks should absolutely train its employees. But if this training has any chance at making a lasting impact, it should not begin and end with implicit bias. Social science has a lot to say about other elements that should also be included to construct a training that will lead to lasting change.

This starbucks story is such crap (like their coffee)

if two white guys refused to order something in a coffeeshop and were asked to leave then were arrested after refusing to leave several times--just about everyone would say they deserve what they got.

But because they're black its media hysteria time-- waycism waycism waycism!

this isn't racism, this is racial entitlement and asking for special treatment based on race.

WAY..way over rated coffee. So MANY places to get coffee, but they created their image of COOL, and now the racist crowd will do them in. More white people need to be ashamed that they are white.

So now what? It’s predictable that Starbucks will become a target for loitering.

They will.not be able to do anything about loitering, even if homeless folks decide to camp out.

This is funny on another level, because Starbucks prides itself as a company, for support of liberal causes. But in this case, they have offended the sensibilities of blacks, a key grievance group.

Multiple studies have shown that diversity training that makes people uncomfortable hardens negative attitudes against so called “oppressed” groups by those who hold them, and creates such attitudes in those who previously had positive or neutral attitudes— so I guess agree. Make whitey uncomfortable, make them grovel and confess to their sins, make them admit they have never accomplished anything, make them testify that they got to their leadership or senior technical positions by trampling more qualified people of color.

My very white gf was asked to leave when her WiFi at home was down and she needed to get some resumes out; of course she apologized and immediately left when asked. Point is, even in suburban areas this is not uncommon, most people simply don’t try to push it— how hard is it to either buy something or leave rather than be confrontational?

If only guilt-ridden lefties were smart enough, they would figure out that these enraged minorities want them to give them all their wealth, then die. There is no middle ground.

This is deliberate misdirection from recognizing the actual causation of social problems; misdirection from understanding how to better situations to imaginary grievances that can only worsen social situations. (Of course it is what you get, when you have a Corporate management in denial of common sense.)

Misdirection--Familiar Leftist Approach.

Isn't Starbucks the same company that lobbied against religious freedom in Indiana, about three years ago?

I would love to be the lawyer defending the manager’s wrongful firing suit.

She followed the Starbucks rulebook on loitering. Loitering has no color, these just happened to be blacks.

They made the excuse that they were waiting for someone for a business meeting. When asked to go outside to wait, these businessmen started cursing the manager, that is when the police were called. Some time later the police came and the business associate they said they were waiting for never showed up and was never confirmed.
Just two guys lying about doing business and loitering.
Intimidation of manager, annoying customers, police removed them.

Liberal Starbucks will pay for firing the manager.

I think this might not have happened if they lowered the price of their overpriced coffee so even loiterers can afford to purchase some.

Not a good idea to piss off 60% of the population.

Can the rest support Starbucks business? Will they want to?

Or can they afford to?

Keep it up with the race baiting.

I’ve tried a few non coffee items from them lately and it wasn’t bad at all except for the price which prevents me from continuing to patronize them.

This is liberal’s Mao Cultural Revolution is alive and well in the United States today. Political Correctness is destroying our society.

The goal I suspect is to inoculate blacks from having to observe not only laws and rules but social customs.

There are some who want to keep pushing the boundaries until someone pushes back, and then the RACE CARD is pulled.

This is not going to end well.

The training is a success. That nonsense has made me so uncomfortable that I won’t go to their overpriced shops at all. Big win for diversity training!

plenty of research shows that white people tend to find conversations about race to be more uncomfortable and anxiety-provoking than black people do.

I talk about race with at least one black person almost weekly and often my only discomfort is in how wrong they are about prejudice from whites. In order to spare their feelings at being so wrong or not to start a fight, I’ll leave that part out.

Is there racism from whites against blacks? Yes but it’s not ubiquitous and these days fellow whites would be ostracised for saying offensive things. I have been more times around blacks who were negative or aversive to whites lately than the reverse. Why would anyone want ass kissing? It’s patronization.

We used to be able to joke with each other more than today. I miss us all getting along.

If it makes white people uncomfortable, we go away with our money and you no longer have a business.
