Facebook said Wednesday that it believes most of its users who had a specific search function enabled have had their profile data scraped by third parties.
"We've seen some scraping," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on a call with reporters. "I would assume if you had that setting turned on that someone at some point has access to your public information in some way," he said.
The setting Zuckerberg referred to is one where users let other users search for them by e-mail address or phone number instead of by name.

I’ve always assumed that any information I put on FB is public information. I’m careful what I post and where I post it. My profile is based on my posts and my click habits. What’s the big deal? They don’t have my complete address, phone numbers, or financial/background information. We Freepers have nothing to complain about. When FR was down and we were all going crazy, the FB hosted Free Republic site worked very well, no interference for expressing our conservative views. The FR page is still there, and often has interesting articles for discussion.
That’s a good precaution, but Facebook could still have personal information.
The question is how much Facebook is tracking your other web surfing habits by touching the cookies for Facebook links on the other sites you visit without going to them from Facebook.
You should also assume that your privacy settings were completely ignored on the back end.
My Facebook page has very little personal info.
Zuckerberg is a man child who came into too much money too early in life. His emotional growth stopped at 16. That’s why he could not even pull off the pre scripted responses in the oversight meeting.
They are. I know that for a fact. If you have the Facebook app, it is constantly monitoring what you are doing on the Web.
Same here. Got on when a child of mine got on, to see what it was. Fun for a while restablishing contacts. Then, I became aware of their data harvesting, especially with facial recognition (Is this Joe Smith?). That was it for me.
Zucks gotta be torqued off that his data can be scraped for free.
... they do hand over the money.
It is an unfortunate fact that most Farcebook users are actually too dumb to realize the consequences of such a setting.
Farcebook discourages any kind of control on one's account and setting these types of controls is an automatic red flag to the administrators.
I know...they actually told me that in an extremely rare response to a suspension for denigrating islam and muslims.
Do the only right thing...terminate your Farcebook account.
My Facebook birthday just passed, April Fool's Day.
Lol. I joke that I bet I confuse my relatives who know my real birthdate.
I had a cousin that went for the bad date & sent me greetings. Maybe I should hold out for presents.
Does anyone know: Are they being class-action sued for this or are they immune?
Well, all except the ones he and his gang killed .... plus a few innocent bystanders I think (Baby Face Nelson).
Try Feb 29th as a B/D
ASSume, you say?
Yeah, this coming from the idiot who called all Facebook users dumbf*cks...........
I will pray for those of you who still insist on using Facebook, instagram, etc.
Facebook Worth $462.88 billion divided by 2 billion users in a Class Action Lawsuit equals $115.44 billion per person after the lawyers cut. I’ll take mine on a pallet or so.
By your exzmple, you meant $115.44 dollars per person, not billion per person. Maybe a pallet of pennies?
